The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom takes the Hyrule you thought you knew and throws in a bunch of additional places to explore. Along with new places, there are new mechanics that might confound you when you first encounter them. Here is our guide explaining how to heal broken hearts in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Tears of the Kingdom – how to heal broken hearts
As you explore the underground area, known as the Depths, you are likely to take damage. Sometimes, this leads to your hearts appearing grayed out with a crack showing. These hearts might be considered ‘broken.’
To heal broken hearts, return to the overworld, consume an item capable of encountering gloom damage, or bathe in the glow of a Lightroot. If your hearts have been impacted by gloom damage, that’s when they appear broken. Regular items simply won’t address that issue.
Returning to the overworld is the easiest option, but it’s not always convenient. You probably want to continue exploring, even when enemies get in a lucky shot or two.
One convenient option is to visit the nearest Lightroot. There’s a good chance you’re looking for one, anyway. We’ve written a guide telling you how to easily find Lightroot locations. In general, seek the next glowing kernel of light, just outside the range of any light you already have available. There’s one positioned not far from pretty much any chasm entrance. Once you activate a Lightroot, you can fast travel to it whenever you like. Stand within the glowing point beneath it and your hearts gradually refill. Broken hearts are healed.
If you find yourself with broken hearts a long way from a Lightroot, consume food created using Sundelion. You might want to learn how to make veggie porridge. Or, you can mix Sundelion with three or four tomatoes. That produces a simple dish that heals broken hearts.
