The Guardian Games All-Stars prove why people come back to Destiny 2. The event brings a brand-new mode of transportation rivaling that of the Sparrow: a hoverboard.
You can pull off all kinds of tricks and flips on this floating plank if you have a bit of training. So it’s time for a quick crash course as we figure out how to grind with Skimmer in Destiny 2.
How to perform tricks and grind with Skimmer in Destiny 2
The grind to keep the Skimmer you get from the Guardian Games might be a long one, but thankfully you can use a temporary one during the event. Where the Skimmer differs from the Sparrow, is the fact that you can grind on a rail with it. The color and type of rail you grind on are based on the current subclass you have equipped (Strand, Solar, etc).
To grind with a Skimmer in Destiny 2, press the “toggle crouch” button on M/KB, “B” on Xbox, and “Circle” on PlayStation. In the bottom left of the screen where your Sparrow boost normally is, there is a bar for your rail grinding. It’s a generous bar, and it allowed me to practically fly around Neomuna with it. That being said, grinding isn’t the only thing you can do with a Skimmer.

You can roll left and right, jump, and even perform vehicle-specific emotes. You can use all of these tricks one after another, and string them together for some crazy stunts.
Destiny 2— All Skimmer controls
Use these controls to make sure you have the right keys bound. The Skimmer feels like it was made for controllers, so you shouldn’t have to mess with anything there. This list is more for my M/KB Guardians who can’t seem to figure out which keys work with what on the skimmer. If a control isn’t specified by the platform, it means that the button can be re-mapped to whatever you want. I’m not going to include M/KB controls for rolling left and right with the Skimmer, since those have dedicated button mapping in the settings.
Here are all Skimmer controls in Destiny 2:
- Jump —
- Shift (M/KB)
- RT (Xbox)
- R2 (PlayStation)
- Boost —
- Right-Click (M/KB)
- LT (Xbox)
- L2 (PlayStation)
- Grind —
- Toggle Crouch (M/KB)
- B (Xbox)
- Circle (PlayStation)
- Roll Left —
- LB (Xbox)
- L1 (PlayStation)
- Roll Right —
- RB (Xbox)
- R1 (PlayStation)
- Emote 1 —
- Up-Arrow (M/KB)
- D-Pad Up (Xbox/PlayStation)
- Emote 2 —
- Left-Arrow (M/KB)
- D-Pad Left (Xbox/PlayStation)
- Emote 3 —
- Right-Arrow (M/KB)
- D-Pad Right (Xbox/PlayStation)
- Emote 4 —
- Down-Arrow (M/KB)
- D-Pad Down (Xbox/PlayStation)
With enough practice, these controls will become second nature on M/KB. But that’s not all the new things to come out of the Guardian Games All-Stars. There’s a new Drop-In quest, along with the usual festivities of class supremacy taking place in playlists. This is the time to show your love to your favorite class in Destiny 2, and look sick grinding across the air on a hoverboard while doing it.
