Baldur's Gate 3 Underdark Guide

How to get to the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3

We're going down.

The Underdark is home to some of the nastiest enemies Baldur’s Gate 3 has to offer. In fact, it’s probably a good thing that gaining access to it isn’t so easy. But if you’re roleplaying as an adventurer that wants to see all corners of the world, then the Underdark will seem pretty tempting. So to sate that appetite, let’s go through how you can get to the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3 easily.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How to get to the Underdark

There are a few ways to go about getting to the Underdark and they’re all reasonably viable from the start. But some paths will be harder than others. So the path that this guide will show you is by far the simplest method to getting there. And you should be coming to this area during the main quest anyway.

Baldur's Gate 3 Shattered Sanctum

We’re heading to the Shattered Sanctum as it offers the easiest access to the Underdark in BG3. And if done right it involves no combat. For detailed instructions on how to get here, you can take a look at our guide to saving Halsin.

Simply enter the Shattered Sanctum and go through the door that is directly to the west. You’ll need to jump across a gap to reach it as pictured above. Once you’re through you’ll find Polma standing guard. She won’t let anyone through this area, so you either have to fight her or find a clever way to get past. If you’re choosing to fight, climb up the nearby ladder that’s near the door you entered from. The height advantage will benefit archers and spellcasters.

Baldur's Gate 3 Underdark Shattered Sanctum Puzzle

After she’s been dealt with you can proceed through the corridor up ahead. Keep going until you find a room that’s seemingly a dead end. This is where we need to solve a puzzle, and it’s not too hard to figure out. But I’ll give you the solution anyway to save some time. You just want to rotate the panels on the ground in the center of the room so that all four dark circles are placed under the light. Take a look at the picture above to see how it should be. Afterward, we’ll be extremely close to the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur's Gate 3 Selunite Outpost Underdark

From there you just need to proceed through to the way that just opened up. You’ll find a short corridor followed by a ladder. Climb down and you’ll find yourself in the Selunite Outpost, which just so happens to be in the Underdark. Head to the eastern end of the outpost to find a Sigil Circle and you’ve now got a fast travel point to get down here even quicker. With that, you’ve now got access to the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3.
