Zelda Tears of the Kingdom – How to get to the Great Abandoned Central Mine

The Great Abandoned Central Mine is one of the most useful locations in the game. It works well as an early frame of reference when you begin exploring the Depths, has an available Forge Construct, and is located near a Bargainer Statue. You’ll want to access it early in your adventure. Once you do, you will likely return often. To get to the Great Abandoned Central Mine, descend into the Great Plateau East Chasm and then travel not quite due west once you arrive in the Depths.

To find the Great Plateau East Chasm, make your way to the Eastern Abbey on the surface. You’ll find it not far north of Lake Hylia, and not terribly far to the west of Scout’s Hill. If you start from Lookout Landing, which I recommend for simplicity’s sake, you can reach it at the end of a long journey not quite due south.

Start by heading south from Lookout Landing. Proceed across the expansive Hyrule Field. Avoid enemy groups you might encounter along the way. Try to steer clear of encampments in particular. You shouldn’t meet a lot of stiff opposition, especially near the start of your adventure. But it’s best to stay on your guard. There can be Moblins, as well as Bokoblins on mounts.

As you continue south and pass the Forest of Time, watch for a high stone wall with battlements. You need to scale this rock wall. Take breaks along the way if your stamina is low. You may need to use items to scale the wall and reach the Great Plateau region. I recommend starting with an entire ring of stamina available, if possible.

The Eastern Abbey was built along that region’s southeastern edge. Head there now to discover that the abbey has collapsed into ruins. You will also find a hole in the ground, with wicked red soil that inflicts damage if you step on it. Jump into the chasm and glide down into the Depths. Position yourself at the center and you can dive most of the way without relying on stamina.

In the Depths, head west. This portion of that underground region isn’t especially dangerous. You don’t have to travel especially far, but take any of the usual precautions. Light your way with Brightbloom Seed items if you have and need them. You should see torches on the building from a distance, so you can follow that light to reach your destination and start exploring.

If you have a lot of stamina left after reaching the base of the chasm shaft, glide over to your destination without traveling on foot. Taking that trip by air requires a ring and a half or so worth of stamina.

There are numerous other chasms you can use to enter the Depths. From the base of most of them, you can still make your way to the mine. I recommend the route I’ve outlined above so that you have to spend less time in the Depths. Other approaches can also work well. The route you follow is ultimately a matter of preference.
