Super Mario Bros. Wonder – how to get the Wonder Seeds in Angry Spikes and Sinkin’ Pipes

Spike has been one of my favorite enemy characters since they debuted in Super Mario Bros. 3, but they haven’t appeared very often throughout the Mario universe since then. Their most memorable appearance that comes to mind is as a playable character in Mario Party 10. Now they’re back in the action in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, prominently featuring in a level you may run through a few times while searching for Wonder Seeds. To get the Wonder Seeds in the Angry Spikes and Sinkin’ Pipes level, you have to take some risks that would spell doom.

Wonder Seed #1

This first Wonder Seed is the one you might miss on your initial run through the stage. I admit to not grabbing it until my third or fourth run. I knew I was missing a Wonder Seed, and I had a pretty good idea where things were going wrong, but I didn’t know what to do about it.

To get the first Wonder Seed, you have to stand on a specific pipe to let it sink into the pit. The pipe is just over halfway through the stage, to the right of some bricks and a POW block. When you find the pipe, positioned next to a series of music note blocks, you will notice it has a flower on it. Stand on the pipe and let it slowly sink into the pit. The flower offers some advice: “This pipe–it can’t hold us!” Ignore the flower’s concerns. Descend to the bottom of the screen and you will enter a secret hidden area.

In the hidden area, a Spikey Dance Number plays. The row of pipes functions as a lift. You slowly ascend past a series of multiple Spike enemies that appear along the left and right sides of the chamber. They throw spiked balls your way. If you are Elephant Mario, hit the spiked balls with your trunk to send them flying back at your enemies. This is easier than avoiding them, which you may have to do otherwise. At the top of the ride, you’ll find the Wonder Seed.

Wonder Seed #2

This Wonder Seed is much easier to find. In fact, you can’t miss it if you manage to clear the stage. Once you bring the flag down the pole at the end of the level, a retainer emerges from the Flower House and hands over the Wonder Seed.
