The Everburn Blade is one of the earliest secret weapons you can get in Baldur’s Gate 3. In fact, it can be collected during your escape from the Nautiloid at the very start of the game. With that being said, getting it can be a bit of a tricky process. But we’ll quickly run through everything you need to know about the Everburn Blade here in this guide.
Baldur’s Gate 3: How to get the Everburn Blade
The Everburn Blade can be found in the possession of Commander Zhalk. That’s the Cambion fellow who is trying to kill the Mind Flayer at the end of the Nautiloid dungeon. And you can actually see that he’s holding a giant flaming sword in his hands. That’s the Everburn Blade, and in order to get it we need to make sure Zhalk dies in this encounter.
Zhalk is a pretty tough foe, especially at such an early point in the game. He’s a level 8 Fighter with an AC of 18 in fact, which is a lot to deal with. And he makes full use of the Everburn Blade before you can get it in Baldur’s Gate 3. Thankfully we have a few things helping us out in this fight.
First up, Zhalk’s focus is almost entirely set on the Mind Flayer. And while the Mind Flayer still lives Zhalk will not attack your party. Therefore, if the Mind Flayer survives, you can just keep attacking Zhalk without issue. The other problem this fight presents is the turn limit. You only have 15 turns to reach the Nautiloid’s transponder to stop the ship from crashing. So we’ve got quite a lot to keep track of in this fight.
The best strategy
To get the Everburn Blade in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need to work hard in this encounter. My advice is to focus on the Lesser Imps and Hellsboar first. Then once they’re dead focus your attacks on Zhalk. You may also want to use Shadowheart’s Shield of Faith spell on the Mind Flayer to help protect it from Zhalk’s attacks. Once the number of turns gets to around 6 or 5, break one of your party members off of the fight and have them head for the transponder. In the meantime, the other two will keep attacking Zhalk if he’s not already dead.
The Mindflayer will be your primary source of damage against Zhalk. So, if he’s just not landing hits, don’t be afraid to reload a save and try the fight again to get better results. Additionally, after the first five turns more enemies will flood the room and make the encounter even harder. Look out for when the odds are stacked against you and be ready to reload to try again. Also, don’t worry about reviving any party members during this encounter since everyone will be fine after this opening segment.
With luck, you’ll be able to deal with Zhalk and reach the transponder in time. Then you’ll finally have the Everburn Blade in Baldur’s Gate 3. This is a fantastic weapon to have in the early game, so it’s indeed worth the effort.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available on PC.
