Cities: Skylines II: How to get rid of pollution

In Cities: Skylines II there are a total of four different pollution types: ground, water, noise, and air. The rule of thumb for dealing with pollution is distributing the different types of buildings across the map. Here are some tips to prevent or get rid of the different types of pollution:

How to get rid of all pollution types in Cities: Skylines II

  • Ground pollution: Other than getting rid of nearby pollutants, your best chance to get rid of ground pollution is the passing of time. Some even say that tsunamis help get rid of ground pollution, but you have the risk of destroying your city altogether.
  • Water pollution: The best way to prevent water pollution is to set your underground plants in water sources with no previous pollution. The other way is to make sure that the sewage outlet is well across the map and following the natural direction of the water. The last thing you need is to distribute water that is filled with human waste. Lastly, upgrade your water stations so you can prevent pollution even further.
  • Noise pollution: Intelligent distribution is the name of the game. Position trees and parks in places where the vegetation can absorb the impact of the surrounding noise. Position them across commercial and industrial zones. You can also use sound barriers on highways so they can trap the noise of traffic. Moreover, using multiple-lane highways will improve traffic and noise as well.
  • Air pollution: Air pollution is about positioning. Industrial buildings and power plants will emit CO2 and will travel in a certain direction. Because you don’t want citizens to become victims of illness and overall unhappiness, you can position residential areas to the opposite side from where the smoke travels. You can directly use green energy instead, although it is very limited by the different stations of the year.
