Pecharunt is Generation 9’s first and only Mythical Pokémon — but how can you catch it? Here’s everything you need to know about how to get Pecharunt in Pokémon S/V.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: How to get Pecharunt
It is finally time to close up the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet story. The Epilogue will require you to complete all of the main story, including the DLCs, as well as completing the Academy Ace Tournament. Then, after getting the Mythical Pecha Berry and interacting with the pink object in Peachy’s General Store in Kitakami, you will be able to start this hour-long Epilogue.
You will be met with a strange phenomenon called Mochi Mayhem, which will be the Epilogue Quest name and also a state in which Pokémon trainers become extra anxious for some battles. First of all, however, you will have to travel to some places to meet up with the friends you’ve met during your adventures. All of this is pretty straightforward and you will only need to fast-travel from location to location. Here are the places you must visit and the friends you must catch up to.
Friend Catch Up
Friend(s) | Location |
---|---|
Arnve, Nemona, and Penny | House, Cabo Poco |
Arnve, Nemona, and Penny | Mesagoza’s South Gate |
Kieran | Kieran’s House |
Kieran, Nemona | Community Center |
You will then need to travel outside of the Community Center and talk to the villagers. They will challenge you to a battle, possessed by the Mochi Mayhem. Yes, they are Pokémon trainers, so get ready to rumble.
First Battle Set – Outside Community Center
Shige Pokémon | Aya Pokémon |
---|---|
Ariados | Salazzle |
Noctowl | Victreebel |
For Shige, be sure to select Pokémon that are strong against Ariados and Noctowl. I would prioritize Rock-type Pokémon since both of Shige’s Pokémon are particularly weak to them. In the case of Aya, Psychic types will dominate both Salazzle and Victreebel. Once you finish the battle, follow Nemona to Kitakami Hall. You will meet Nemona’s grandparents, who will shortly become possessed by the Mochi Mayhem and challenge you to a battle. Oh well, how many times do we have to teach you, old people, am I right?
Second Battle Set – Kitakami Hall
Grandma Hideko Pokémon | Grandpa Yukito Pokémon |
---|---|
Chandelure | Arbok |
Mamoswine | Weezing |
This battle is pretty straightforward. For Grandma Hideko, pick a powerful Water-type Pokémon since both Chandelure and Mamoswine are weak against Water types. For Grandpa Yukito, you can either pick a Ground type or a Psychic type since Arbok and Weezing share both weaknesses. Once you defeat Nemona’s grandparents, you will need to head back to Mossui Town and head to Peachy’s, back where the Epilogue started. Arven and Penny will be there and, you guessed it, will get cursed by the Mochi Curse. Time to fight your friends, I guess.
Third Battle Set – Peachy’s
Penny Pokémon | Arven Pokémon |
---|---|
Umbreon | Greedent |
Sylveon | Mabosstiff |
Leafeon | Cloyster |
For Penny, be sure to pick up a powerful Bug type Pokémon to attack both Umbreon and Leafeon. Don’t use it for Sylveon since it resists Bug type attacks. Instead, pick up either a Poison or Steel type for it. In the case of Arven, Fighting type Pokémon are the way to go since all of his Pokémon are weak to them. Once the battle is over, it will be time to end the Mochi Curse before the rest of your friends and family decide to battle you for eternity. Follow Kieran to the Loyalty Plaza to battle some mysterious Pokémon. You guessed it, time to battle a friend, and no, it is not Kieran, it is Nemona. It is also the final battle, so suit up.
Final Battle – Nemona
Nemona Pokémon |
---|
Lycanroc (Midday Form) |
Goodra |
Pawmot |
Kommo-o |
If you chose Quaxly | If you chose Fuecoco | If you chose Sprigatito |
---|---|---|
Skeleridge | Meowscarada | Quaquaval |
Dusknoir | Milotic | Ribombee |
This 6 vs 6 Pokémon battle is very particular since, just like in the base game, Nemona will sport the Pokémon she chose when all of you were picking starter Pokémon at the beginning of the game. As a rule of thumb, the last two Pokémon will feature the Pokémon that is weak to your starter. To counter the first four, I suggest picking a Ground type and an Ice or Dragon type. Ground types will take care of Lycarnoc and Pawmot, while the Ice or Dragon types will take care of Goodfra and Kommo-o. For the starters, just use the one you got. Here is a table describing each of Nemona’s Pokémon weaknesses:
Nemona Pokémon | Weakness |
---|---|
Dusknoir | Ghost (x2) Dark (x2) |
Ribombee | Fire (x2) Poison (x2) Flying (x2) Rock (x2) Steel (x2) |
Milotic | Grass (x2) Electric (x2) |
Once you finish with Nemona, you will battle the source of the Mochi Curse: Pecharunt. It is weak against Ground, Psychic, Ghost, and Dark-type Pokémon, so pick wisely. Pick your strongest Pokémon and deal as much damage as possible. Don’t worry about depleting its HP, that is what you must do before catching it! Once you do, congratulations!
What is Pecharunt?
If Pecharunt looks familiar, that’s because it was previously teased in The Teal Mask as part of The Loyal Three and Ogerpon’s tale. Pecharunt is based on the Japanese folklore hero Momotarō (Peach Boy).
Momotarō was a boy born from a peach who left his parents to fight Oni, demonic creatures often compared to ogres. During his travels, he met a talking dog, pheasant, and monkey. Sound familiar? Based on its folktale inspiration and Pokédex entries, it seems that Pecharunt was the one to corrupt The Loyal Three.
Scarlet Pokédex: “It feeds others toxic mochi that draw out desires and capabilities. Those who eat the mochi fall under Pecharunt’s control, chained to its will.“
Violet Pokédex: “Its peach-shaped shell serves as storage for a potent poison. It makes poisonous mochi and serves them to people and Pokémon.“
Pecharunt type, stats, ability, and signature move
Type | Pecharunt is a Poison/Ghost-type Pokémon and the only Mythical in Generation 9 so far. It changes form when in and out of battle, similar to Terapagos. |
Ability | Poison Puppeteer is an ability unique to Pecharunt. Any Pokemon poisoned by Pecharunt’s moves will also become confused. If the damage over time wasn’t enough, any Pokémon fighting Pecharunt has to worry about hitting itself in the face. |
Signature Move | Malignant Chain is Pecharunt’s signature move. It deals damage and has a 50% chance of badly poisoning the opponent, which will also confuse it, thanks to Poison Puppeteer. Type: Poison Category: Special PP: 5 Power: 100 Accuracy: 100% |
Stats | HP: 88 Attack: 88 Defense: 160 Sp. Atk: 88 Sp. Def: 88 Speed: 88 Total: 600 |

Be sure to also collect all of the Legendary Pokémon that are exclusive to your game version. In the meantime, there are a bunch of things you can do post-epilogue, so don’t shut down the game just yet!
