How to get max Cooking Approval in Thirsty Suitors

Please, Ammi, be proud!

Thirsty Suitors is the first game I’ve seen that combines the genres of skating, cooking, and turn-based combat into a single sassy RPG. Cooking is a major part of Thirsty Suitors where the higher approval you gain, the higher-quality cooked items you’ll receive at the end.

If you’ve got trouble living up to the insane expectations of your virtual Indian mother, don’t worry. We’ve got you covered in this guide on gaining maximum cooking approval in Thirsty Suitors.

Gaining the best cooking rating in Thirsty Suitors

To get the best approval in Thirsty Suitors, one thing you need to be aware of is your quick-time event timings. Clicking the prompted button too early or late can affect your overall score. Remember that you need to press “F” just as the outer circle enters the inner circle. Also, when prompted to hold “E”, you must start holding it as soon as you get prompted to and stop pressing immediately after the bar fills up. The same goes for the “alternate left and right” prompt. Start and stop pressing the buttons immediately. By hitting the buttons right on time and making few mistakes, you’ll find that the cooking approval bar fills up quicker because you’ll be getting more points for every cooking step.

Save up Heat for the end

While you could use your first heat to super-wash your hands and gain a boost to approval early on, I wouldn’t recommend it for one reason. You see, there’s a mechanic in Thirsty Suitors cooking that feels kind of, I wouldn’t say broken, but it does tip the scales a bit to your side. That mechanic is “Compliment Mom”. Try to do all the cooking steps, till the second last one, as accurately as you can to earn and save up Heat. You’ll need 2-3 Heat for the next part but, as you’ll see, if you’re lucky you might even manage with just one.

Butter up Mom with compliments

Now we’re going to show you how you can use “Compliment Mom” to your advantage. You see, whenever you choose to spend one heat to compliment mom, it brings up a spinning wheel with different effects. Each section of the wheel is either a positive effect like +3 Approval or +1 Heat, but there’s also a chance to land on a negative effect like -1 Approval. But the thing is, there are way more positive effects than negative ones on the wheel.

If we do some simple math, there’s only a 1/6 chance to lose approval and a 1/12 chance to lose heat, while there’s a whopping 2/3 chance to land on something positive. A 66% chance is a fairly good probability to bet on, so that’s why we recommend using Heat on the wheel. It’s pure chance, but you can also gain more heat if you land on a section like +1 Heat. This means that, in theory, you can keep on spinning the wheel, losing and gaining heat, until you reach the 3 stars and max approval that’s needed for a perfect cooking score in Thirsty Suitors.
