How to get kills with Akimbo equipped on a Handgun while sliding in MW3, MWZ

It's easier than it sounds.

Challenges that ask you to jump through hoops are nothing new in Call of Duty, but some require more work than others. With this in mind, let me explain how to get Akimbo Handgun kills while sliding in Modern Warfare 3 and Modern Warfare Zombies.

Before diving into specifics, let me briefly explain what Akimbo Handguns are. Akimbo is an attachment you can use with any Handgun, and you can find it in the Rear Grip section. Akimbo disables a few attachment choices but lets you dual-wield for double the firepower.

The downside is that Akimbo is inaccurate as you can’t aim down the sights. Still, you can run around and slide as normal with dual handguns and outplay your opponents with speed.

The Akimbo attachment is usually a late unlock for any handgun, so I recommend using it on any weapon you have available. I’ll be rocking the Akimbo FTAC Siege with the following attachments:

  • Rear Grip – Akimbo FTAC Siege
  • Magazine – 72 Round Drum
  • Muzzle – XTEN RR-40
  • Barrel – CMRN-50
  • Laser – 1MW Pistol Laser

Akimbo FTAC Siege handguns are bullet hoses with these attachments. The 72-round mags are great for sustained fire, and the Laser helps with accuracy. Keep in mind Akimbo Handguns are inaccurate no matter what you do, so expect a few fights to go south, even if you play well.

If you’re struggling with the sliding part of the challenge, I recommend changing a setting in the options menu. Open the controls menu and turn on Automatic Sprint, as I have in the image above. Now, all you have to do is press crouch whenever you’re moving (Circle on PlayStation, B on Xbox) to initiate a slide.

As players die so fast in multiplayer, I don’t think changing your perks or throwables is necessary. That said, here’s what I recommend if you’re going all in on a sliding akimbo build:

Throwables

  • Tactical – Stun Grenade
  • Lethal – Sticky Grenade

Stun Grenades are great, as they briefly immobilize your target, allowing you to close the distance. Ultimately, you can use any throwable you like, but Sticky kills are satisfying if you’re up close and personal.

Equipment

  • Gloves – Commando Gloves
  • Boots – Covert Sneakers
  • Gear – Ghost T/V Camo

There’s a case to be made for Tactical Pads instead of Covert Sneakers, as they increase slide velocity. The issue is that you stomp around like an elephant while sprinting. Any decent player will hear you from a mile away. Covert Sneakers silence your footsteps so you can close in undetected.

On that note, I recommend Ghost T/V Camo so pesky UAVs won’t reveal your approach.

Akimbo Handguns are fun to use, but I prefer a decent SMG if you want to win fights consistently. The Superi 46 is a great candidate for close-range combat and worth building if you have it.
