The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features a return of fragile weapons that break following regular use. It pays to find weapons with a high attack rating. That way, you have to strike less frequently to fell an enemy. Here is our guide on how to get the Gloom Club in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Tears of the Kingdom – how to get the Gloom Club
The Gloom Club is a ludicrously powerful weapon. It has an offensive rating of 50 that shreds enemy defenses. However, it has a nasty side effect. The very gloom that makes it so effective gradually wears down your body.
To get the Gloom Club, defeat Phantom Ganon in one of the locations where he spawns with a club. He appears in various locations throughout Hyrule, but might carry one of three weapons: a spear, a sword, or the club. Whatever he carries to the fight, he drops.
The tricky part is finding the Phantom Ganon that carries the Gloom Club. I have the best luck finding the one with the Gloom Spear. However, the map above shows one convenient location where you can rely on him dropping the Gloom Club. It is a short distance southeast of Kyononis Shrine, in the Hyrule Castle Town Ruins.
Phantom Ganon also appears with the Gloom Club at the following locations:
- Near the north end of Taobab Grassland (not far northeast of Kitawak Shrine).
- In a hollowed out stump near Ren-iz Shrine in Crenel Hills.
- Near the lowest level of Lomei Labyrinth Island in the Lomei Labyrinth Chasm area. You reach it by navigating the maze to reach the journal at the end. Then descending through the nearby opening.
Before you can face Phantom Ganon, you must first defeat the Gloom Hands. They’re puddles of gloom that ooze slowly your way, lanky arms extended. I like to hit them using Arrows fused with Bomb Flowers. Check our guide on where to get and farm Bomb Flowers if you need more of them. A few direct hits to the ‘eyes’ on the lead hands destroys all of them in short order.
Tend to the hands quickly and Phantom Ganon typically appears next. When armed with a club, he moves sluggishly but hits hard. Get close to tempt him to jump at you and swing down with his club. Keep him targeted. Counters win this fight. Time your moves so that as he reaches the peak of his jump and starts dropping, you step to the side. This lets you counter with an attack flurry. You’ll get in a few hits to remove the gloom puddle forming around him.
Repeat the above process until you win. Drink a Mighty Elixir if desired. With a powerful weapon equipped, the battle goes quickly. Fast weapons with long range are ideal. I also bring Sunny Steamed Tomatoes to this fight (cook three Hylian Tomatoes with a Sundelion) to restore hearts lost to gloom damage.
When you defeat Phantom Ganon, he drops items and weapons. They include the Gloom Club and a Demon King’s Bow that scales based on your heart maximum.
