The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features numerous secrets. You might not realize you can learn a secret move that doesn’t require you to hold a weapon. Here is our guide explaining how to get the Earthwake technique in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Tears of the Kingdom – how to get Earthwake technique
In a lot of respects, the Yiga Clan is a bit of a joke. It returns after its debut in Breath of the Wild and hasn’t shaken its comic relief aspects. However, the clan members are capable warriors when they want to be. They also have a secret skill to teach you.
To get the Earthwake technique, you must pass a challenge in the Yiga Clan Hideout. That requires finding the Yiga Clan Hideout in the Gerudo Highlands. You also need the complete Yiga armor set to enter.
Acquire the Yiga Clan Armor set
Start by obtaining the full Yiga Clan set. The three pieces are the Yiga Armor, Yiga Tights, and Yiga Mask. Those armor pieces are scattered throughout Hyrule, in smaller clan hideouts:
- Find the Yiga Armor at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab in the far northeast portion of Deep Akkala. You are sent to this lab after you acquire the Sensor+ ability from Robbie at the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab.
- The Yiga Tights wait at the Yiga Clan Maritta Branch in the Aldor Foothills, to the northwest of the Elma Knolls Chasm. It’s due east from Kiuyoyou Shrine, near the hill’s base. After defeating the two enemies inside, examine the cave ceiling. There’s a hole. Use the Arise ability nearby to ascend to a hidden room where the tailor waits.
- Acquire the Yiga Mask in a shack in the forest northeast of the Great Plateau South Chasm (on the shore to the northwest of Hylia Island). It’s easiest to walk there from Kamizun Shrine, which is to the northeast. You can skirt the Great Plateau’s base and then climb up its south side before heading north to the shack. Spikes surround the shack. Find nearby high ground and glide across them. You can also climb trees. Investigate the shack’s front door to trigger a battle. Then head inside to meet the tailor.
You fight clan members at each stop, but they shouldn’t pose a serious threat if you prepare yourself.
Find Yiga Clan Hideout
Once you have the full Yiga Clan armor set, head to the main Yiga Clan Hideout. It is located west of Rotsumamu Shrine. The above map screenshot shows its entry location. Entry requires a bit of a workaround, since the front door is locked.
To get to the hideout easily, fast travel to the Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower to the west. Then use the Ascend ability to leave the underground cave where you appear. Above ground, travel straight forward to reach the edge of a cliff. Next, jump off the edge. Use your paraglider to descend into the canyon to the left of the giant hole. Dress warmly until you approach the front gate. Change into your full Yiga Clan armor set before trying to enter.
Get the Earthwake technique
Inside the Yiga Clan Hideout, meet with the Yiga Blademaster. He is in the training area, past the shops near the entrance area. Use the Ascend ability to reach the high ledge where he stands. He poses a challenge, wherein you must defeat clan members within the time limit. This challenge works best if you upgraded the Yiga Clan armor after first acquiring it. Otherwise, your opponents hit pretty hard. You might also want to consume an elixir or a meal to improve your attack power. I like using a weapon that inflicts elemental damage.
The first challenge is a test. You must defeat three Yiga Clan members within a minute. If you succeed, you receive the Yiga Fabric. Then you can proceed to the main event once you pay 100 rupees to participate. Defeat six or more of the Yiga Clan members to get the Earthwake Manual.
The manual lets you unleash your new move, which relies on stamina. Without weapons equipped, press and hold the Y button to initiate an attack. A wave starts forward. Release the button to make rocks erupt. It works very well against small or slow enemies confined to the ground.
