One of the reasons why Once Human stands out as one of our favorite survival games is that it’s quite different than most other games in its ilk. From being in a post-apocalyptic world to being a metahuman, the game does make itself unique.
However, crafting is something that is shared between all games in this category. You’ll be collecting charcoal in Once Human — a lot of it. To get charcoal might not be a walk in the park in Once Human. Read on to find out how to get the resource
Once Human: How to get charcoal
To acquire charcoal in Once Human is quite easy, you have to get wood from plentiful trees. It also seems like any tree will do the job. Once you have enough, ensure you have access to a furnace that smelts the wood into charcoal.
To get a furnace, you must collect 20 Copper Ore and 30 Gravel. These two ingredients are in abundance. Gravel can be earned from smashing stone and Copper Ore is obtained through sulfur. You’ll know what sulfur is since it has a yellow tint to it.
When you have the furnace ready and enough resources you can simply make charcoal by placing the wood in the furnace. However, what makes Once Human the potential to be one the best survival games is that while it’s unique, there’s not much hand-holding after the short tutorial.
This means that every time you craft something like charcoal, you’ll need to pick it up from the queue menu manually. I walked away so many times without releasing I’ve left the resource back at camp. So make sure you click on the item to put it in your inventory after it’s been made.Â
What is charcoal good for?
Like many common resources, charcoal is great to get your base started up. It can craft a basic stove and other early items that make your camp hold up. So making as much charcoal as you can is highly recommended. After starting Once Human I spent a lot of time making charcoal and other important ingredients because they probably will be useful as the game goes on. Thankfully, it is easy to make, so getting charcoal isn’t going to be a chore.
