How to get Brute Scales in LEGO Fortnite

I hope you're ready for a fight.

LEGO Fortnite is full of secrets and mysteries, many of which are only uncovered as you get stronger and can craft better gear. Finding new materials is always exciting, but if you’re after Brute Scales, you’ll have to work for them. Here’s how to get Brute Scales in LEGO Fortnite.

How to beat Alligator Boss in LEGO Fortnite

How to get Brute Scales in LEGO Fortnite

I’ve seen several sources call the beast in the picture above the Alligator Boss. This is the desert version, but your first Brute Scale will come from the one in the Grasslands. It’s a weird-looking alligator if you ask me, but you must defeat it for your Brute Scales

Fortunately, the battle isn’t too tricky, but I recommend a few specific pieces of gear. While you could technically beat the Alligator Boss with a regular sword, you’ll have a much better time with a Longsword. These can be crafted from 5 Knotroot Rods on an Upgraded Crafting Bench.

My second recommendation is Health Charms. These are also craftable on the Upgraded Crafting Bench and dramatically increase your life meter when equipped. I had enough Health Charms to have 8 Hearts, and that’s enough to survive 2 hits from the Boss. Finally, bring your best food. I used a stack of Grilled Meat, but you’ll be fine as long as you’re not relying on Raspberries.

Showdown with the Alligator Boss

The Alligator Boss has several attacks, but they are easy to avoid when you know how. The Boss loves to use its fists and has several close-range attacks. You’re safest if you can attack from behind, although this is sometimes hard to pull off unless you’re with friends.

Your opponent loves throwing swinging punches, which are annoying because they hit a large area. If you take a hit, I recommend running away to heal, as this battle can go south very quickly.

The Dodge button will help massively in the fight, making you do a little hop backward. You can press this a few times to keep out of range. Speaking of range, the Alligator Boss has a couple of ranged attacks you need to be aware of.

Alligator Shockwave

The first is a small shockwave that’s telegraphed with a mighty ground pound. If you’re caught in the blast, this attack really hurts, so try to run away to either side to avoid it. The Alligator Boss can also hurl rocks at you. If you notice the Boss suddenly stops chasing you, it’s likely about to throw something. If you’re running to either side, you should avoid the attack.

My best piece of advice in this battle is to take your time. It takes a good while to chip away at the Boss, especially alone. Fortunately, if you die during the fight, you’ll respawn at your base, and your opponent won’t recover health.

Does it matter what biome I fight the Alligator Boss in?

Biomes in LEGO Fortnite determine how tough the creatures are, which also applies to the Alligator Boss. My gear recommendations assume you’re fighting in the Grasslands biome. If you’re fighting in the desert, this same Boss can knock off 7+ Hearts in a single hit.
