How to get Blood Moon Ursaluna in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC

Ready for your date with the Bloodmoon Beast?

The Teal Mask DLC brings a tidy selection of new Pokemon to the roster. Many of these new additions are hard to get and have tricky evolution quirks, but one in particular has a much more demanding prerequisite. Bloodmoon Ursaluna will be one of the last Pokemon you find in the Kitakami region, as it’s locked behind a quest. Even getting the quest to show up is a challenge, so let me show you how to get Blood Moon Ursaluna in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna is locked behind your Kitakami Pokedex completion. You need to complete 150 entries in the Kitakami Dex to trigger the required quest. Once you’ve got that, talk to Perrin outside Mossui Town, and she’ll challenge you to a battle. Before you fight, Perrin mentions she’s not a strong Trainer. Still, this is what you’re up against.

  • Noctowl LV68
  • Leafeon LV70

Noctowl is annoying because it knows Hypnosis and Dream Eater, but it shouldn’t pose much of a problem.

Once you’ve beaten Perrin, she’ll ask you to meet her at the Timeless Woods to the northeast. If you’ve not got a Snorlax or the rare Sinistcha evolution item, you can also find both near this location.

Talking to Perrin triggers a fight with a wild Ariados LV65. Nothing too threatening, so you’ll be fine.

The time will transition to night, and it’ll be foggy. Perfect conditions for tracking down the Bloodmoon Beast. You’re tasked with taking 10 Photos of Pokemon in the area. These must be unique Pokemon, so pay attention to Perrin’s hints on where to look next. Lotad and Tynamo are in the water, and you can find Salandit in the nearby cave.

Once you’ve done this, you’ll trigger a battle with Bloodmoon Ursaluna. This is a surprisingly difficult fight, and as it plays out like a Raid Battle, there’s no level. Bring your best as you’re going to need them.

Ursaluna, The Bloodmoon Beast

  • Blood Moon
  • Earth Power
  • Calm Mind

This Pokemon hits extremely hard, but once you’ve worn it down, you’ll catch it with a 100% success rate. During my testing, I couldn’t get Bloodmoon Ursaluna to do more than these three attacks. For most of the fight, it spammed Blood Moon and Calm Mind. With the Bloodmoon Beast in your collection, speak to Perrin back in Mossui Town. She will give you a Choice Scarf and a Hisuian Growlithe.

Is Bloodmoon Ursaluna worth catching?

Bloodmoon Ursaluna had hardcore Trainers excited before the DLC was even released. This Pokemon has excellent stats and comes with the Mind’s Eye ability, so its accuracy can’t be lowered. Mind’s Eye also makes Normal and Fighting moves hit Ghost types, which can’t usually happen.

This Ground/Normal monstrosity is one of the most dangerous Pokemon in the Teal Mask DLC and is well worth going for. Even if you have no interest in Blood Moon Ursaluna, you need it for that coveted 100% Kitakami Pokedex completion.
