What is Aetherial Mimicry and why do you need it?

Aetherial Mimicry is one of those most critical and central Blue Mage spells you absolutely need to get. This is because it’s basically required for party Blue Mage content with other Blue Mages. Aetherial Mimicry allows you to occupy a healer or tank role by changing certain other spells. This is critical to party composition so Blue Mages doing spell farming can complete duties together.

Using Aetherial Mimicry on a party member who is a different role grants these following effects to you:

  • Tank: Defense increases. Cactguard increases to a 15% damage reduction, Devour increases to 70 seconds, the potency of Divine Cataract from Chelonian Gate increases to 1,000, and Dragon Force’s 20% reduction turns into 40%.
  • Healer: Pom Cure becomes 500 potency instead of 100, Gobskin becomes a 250 potency shield, Exuviation increases to 300 potency, Angel’s Snack adds 200 potency to its 15 second regeneration, and Stotram changes from doing damage to healing the party.
  • DPS: Matra Magic’s potency increases from 50 to 100.

Duties will need tanks and healers. You are the Blue Mage. You can be anything with this simple spell.

Aetherial Mimicry is locked behind a corner of content most people have forgotten about: The Pharos Sirius questline. Specifically, it’s from Pharos Sirius Hard, an out of the way unlock from Heavensward.

Pharos Sirius in normal mode is already out of the way to begin with. It is one of the many dungeons unlocked after beating base A Realm Reborn. However, it is not unlocked in an easy to find spot. You have to talk to Diamanda in Western La Noscea at Aleport (26.5, 26.7) to unlock Pharos Sirius by accepting the quest ‘Sirius Business’. Then run the entire dungeon through- it has not one but two Blue Mage spells if you need them- and report back to her.

A few cutscenes later, your next quest is ‘Things Are Getting Sirius’ from Trachraet in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks, at Maelstrom Command. This quest will unlock Pharos Sirius Hard for you, letting you queue for the chance at Aetherial Mimicry.

Fortunately, it comes from the first boss, so you won’t have to do the entire dungeon to get it. Once you’re at Ghrah Luminary, the boss summons additionals called ‘Corruption.’ You don’t even need to finish the fight to learn the spell off of them, it will just sort of happen as they die.
