Tears of the Kingdom – how to get and farm King’s Scales

You need to get the King’s Scale to solve an important puzzle. You must shoot an arrow with the ‘mark of the king’ through a tear drop to progress the Clues to the Sky main quest.

The mark the riddle mentions is a reference to the King’s Scale. To get the King’s Scale, speak to King Dorephan while working to find the Water Temple. Unfortunately, he has hidden himself away in a secret chamber near a waterfall not far from Zora’s Domain. We provide assistance reaching that area in our guide explaining where to find King Dorephan.

When you speak with King Dorephan while completing that quest, he hands over King’s Scale (5). That’s quite generous since, according to the in-game description, they come from his forehead. He’s more generous than that, though; when you talk to him, he lets you know that you can contact him again if you need more of the scale.

You can attach the King’s Scale to weapons to add five fuse attack power. That doesn’t make a huge difference compared to some possibilities, but it’s better than a poke in the eye. After you clear the Water Temple, King Dorephan moves back to the throne room in Zora’s Domain. You can meet him there if you wish to get additional King’s Scales. He replenishes your supply once you run out, and is the only source for the King’s Scale that I’ve found so far.
