Dawntrail hits FFXIV with an impressive graphics upgrade, adjusting everything from the scenery to how NPCs look. If your character looks worse than before, here’s how to get a free phial of Fantasia character transmog in FFXIV Dawntrail.

What is a Phial of Fantasia in FFXIV Dawntrail?

You can use a Phial of Fantasia to alter your character’s appearance permanently. Ultimately, the item takes you to the character creation screen, so you can change your appearance without starting from scratch.

My favorite feature with these Phials is you have 60 minutes to try out your changes after using them. You can experiment as you like during that period, so make the most of the hour. Phials of Fantasia are usually only available from the cash shop and typically cost $7.50 per use.

While nobody can deny the Dawntrail graphics overhaul is an upgrade, there’s a chance you may not enjoy the subtle changes to your MC. The Phial of Fantasia is an easy way to fix this problem, even if it means tinkering with the character creator for a while.

How to get a free Phial of Fantasia in Dawntrail

To grab your free Phial of Fantasia, teleport to Ul’dah – Steps of Thal in Thanalan. You can grab a quick and easy quest called Bottled Fantasy from the Medicine Merchant, and you’ll be awarded a Phial upon completion. The merchant is a hooded figure, and you can find him beside the market outside.

The only prerequisite for the quest is first completing The Scions of the Seventh Dawn MSQ. You can complete this quest pretty early as it unlocks at level 17.

Like many items of this type, the Phial of Fantasia is character-bound. You can’t give it to other characters you own. Sadly, you can’t sell the item either.

As the Phial is available in Thanalan, which is an ARR area, you don’t even need to own Dawntrail to get it. The low-level restriction is likely because you unlock the ability to fast-travel to other starting locations around that point in your adventure.

On top of the graphical changes, many job abilities have been subtly altered for Dawntrail. Make sure you know how the changes affect you so you can stay ahead in Dungeons and Raids.
