At one point during the quest “Of Rats and Raiders,” you are asked to free the prisoner Rattigan from his cage with almost no explanation on how. This guide explains how to free prisoner Rattigan from his cage in No Rest for the Wicked.
No Rest for the Wicked: How to free Rattigan in the Of Rats and Raiders quest
After speaking to Rattigan and trying to progress the quest, he will continue saying, “Not another word from me until there’s no iron between us.” In other words, you must figure out how to free him from his cage. To free Rattigan from his cage in No Rest for the Wicked, head directly south from the cage until you notice a spiral staircase. Progress up the staircase.
As you make your way up the spiral staircase, you’ll overhear a guard talking about another guard who fell asleep at a nearby fountain. The words “fountain” and “key” are highlighted in the text dialogue, giving you a good idea that this is how you free Rattigan.
So, it’s time to head to the fountain. The image below shows the exact location of the fountain you need to reach to get the key to free Rattigan.
Once you’re at the fountain, you’ll notice a sleeping guard on the ground in front of it. Interact with the sleeping guard to collect the Wagon Cell Key.
Now return to Rattigan in his cage. Interact with the cage to officially free prisoner Rattigan from his cage in No Rest for the Wicked.
After you free Rattigan from his cage, he will decide to help you and you can now progress the Of Rats and Raiders questline forward. He will explain how there is an impending attack on Sacrament and that he can help you stop it. He will tell you to meet him at the entrance to the Sacrament’s sewers. Follow the new waypoint on your in-game map to continue the quest.
That’s all you need to know about freeing prisoner Rattigan from his cage in No Rest for the Wicked. Before heading out of Sacrament, make sure to check our guide on how to equip more Runes for your weapons. You’ll need it since the challenge spike is high for the next step in the questline.
