XDefiant, Ubisoft’s free-to-play answer to Call of Duty, is finally here and the game supports 120hz output on next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
The game’s launch hasn’t been the smoothest, however, and some players are having issues getting the game to run with an increased framerate. While it’s frustrating that 120 FPS support isn’t working out of the box for some XDefiant players, there are thankfully some workarounds that you can try if you’re having issues yourself.
How to Enable 120 FPS for XDefiant on Consoles
XDefiant natively supports 120hz output on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. As long as you have 120hz output enabled in your system settings, you can turn it on from the in-game video settings menu.
Some players are finding the option locked when they look in the game’s settings. One of the easiest fixes that players have found is to disable HDR in your system settings before booting up XDefiant. Once you’re playing in SDR, you should see the option for 120 FPS output when playing XDefiant.
On Xbox, some players have reported that changing the system’s display settings temporarily will unlock the 120 FPS setting in XDefiant. Just open the Xbox settings menu and navigate to General > TV & Display > Options > Video Modes. This should reset your display resolution to 1080p, but you can back out and change it back to 1440p or 4K afterward. If you boot up XDefiant after doing so, the option for 120hz refresh rate should be available.
Unfortunately, these are the only fixes that the XDefiant community has discovered so far for this issue. The XDefiant developers are currently swamped with server issues and other launch problems, too, so it might be a while before a patch is released that fixes this glitch. In the meantime, you’ll just have to enjoy the game at 60 FPS.
