How to fix the ‘You do not have permission to play with users on other platforms’ error in Modern Warfare 3

Nothing can stop me from playing with my friends.

It’s interesting or funny that we’re three months into the Modern Warfare 3 life and the game is still getting hit with errors. For Season Two, players are now facing a “something went wrong” error, which we thankfully have a guide for.

There’s a new error called “You do not have permission to play with users on other platforms,” and we’ll show how to fix it in Modern Warfare 3.

What makes this error interesting is that it seems to be impacting only PS5 and PS4 owners. Which is weird because it’s a crossplay issue. But like the Travis Rilea 14515 error, it can be easy to fix. You only need to toggle crossplay on and off.

Steps to fix the error

  • Head to the game’s options, and look for Account and Network.
  • Crossplay will be the first setting to pick. Make sure it is toggled on.
  • Once it’s on, exit the game, and then head back into it.
  • When you reach the lobby, go back into the Account and Network and turn off crossplay.

After you do these steps, it should work. If not, you may need to completely remove the game and do a clean install.

If you’re playing with friends, do the first two steps. But before turning crossplay off, join your friends in a party. When you’re grouped up, go into your Account and Network and turn off crossplay. However, if this doesn’t work, your party members may have to do the same

Is there any reason why this error happens?

As far as I can tell, and after doing research, there’s no real reason behind it. This is the case for most errors that pop up in Modern Warfare 3. But you can assume for each season there will be a new struggle to deal with. Sadly, the game gets more complicated over time. This is a great environment for issues to appear more often than not.

If you run into any errors or bugs for Modern Warfare 3, you can submit a report to Activision. Find out how to do that here

Modern Warfare 3 is available now via Battle.net, Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5.
