If you’re lucky enough to make it past the queue and create a character in Last Epoch, you might get the Online Play Unavailable message during a loading screen or when trying to select Enter Game. The full message reads, “Online Play Unavailable. Check for news about multiplayer updates or outages. Contact support if this persists.”

The first thing you need to know is this is an error that everybody is getting. If you have a secure internet connection and have downloaded the latest Last Epoch update, this error is caused by the Last Epoch servers.

Currently, there is nothing you can do to get rid of the Last Epoch Online Play Unavailable error. Again, this error is solely because tons of people want to play Last Epoch and Eleventh Hour Games’ servers can’t handle it.

Instead of letting in floods of players which would inevitably overload and crash the servers, Last Epoch’s servers are throttled as players trickle in. To be a player that gets to trickle in to a Last Epoch online server, you need to restart your game and try entering the game again. Doing this is tedious, but it is the only way for you to get in.

How to play Last Epoch offline mode

While you wait for the Last Epoch online servers to stabilize, I suggest enjoying Last Epoch in offline mode. There are a few things to consider when playing Last Epoch offline, but the big one you need to know is you can’t transfer your character from offline to online in Last Epoch.

If you decide you want to play Last Epoch offline because online is too unstable, then you can launch the Last Epoch offline mode directly from Steam. Here’s how:

  • Right-click Last Epoch in your Steam library
  • Select Properties
  • Click the Launch Options dropdown in the General tab
  • Select Play Full Offline
  • When you want the option to play online or offline in Last Epoch, switch it back to Play Last Epoch

Eleventh Hour Games is aware of its server status and is working to improve it. No matter how well testing goes, I always see servers get slammed. This is a very common, but still unfortunate, thing.
