Modern Warfare 3 being hit with issues is the norm. Since it’s an online game with the bulk of content in multiplayer, these problems may never cease. The latest issue in Modern Warfare 3, called Dev Error code 12744, is annoying tons of players out there. We’ll show you how to fix it.
Modern Warfare 3 (MW3): How to fix Dev Error 12744
Unlike the Travis Rilea 14515 error code that happens in certain moments, code 12744 has no specific reason. Some players have reported that it appears on Shipment, while others say it pops during Rust. On top of it seems to only show up if you’re playing split-screen.

Troubleshooting steps
In any case, we do have some solutions that could work. If you’re hit with this problem, consider the solutions below.
- Update your game: 70 percent of the time, error codes and other problems start to appear with an older build of the game. Make sure MW3 is updated to the current release. Activision is constantly releasing patches to resolve issues such as Dev Error 12744, so the same could be said here.Â
- Verify files: This fix usually has the best chance to fix your problem. If you have the game on Steam, right-click MW3 then press Properties. From the new window, press Installed Files on the left-hand bar. After, navigate to the Verify Integrity of Game Files. This will take some time to complete since MW3 is a massive game. Once it’s done, go back into the game, and it should work.Â
- For Battle.net, head to the Call of Duty section in the launcher, beside where it says “Play,” and press the cog wheel. Then, in the next menu, press scan and repair.Â
- Clear cache: For console users, clearing the cache could help. The process for the Xbox and PlayStation 5 is the same. Turn off your console, unplug, and then wait around 60 seconds. After, plug it back in, reconnect everything, and try playing MW3 again.Â
- Check network connection: Believe it or not, your network connection can affect your split screen experience. If you have a weak connection, or if your router is causing problems, try moving it around. You can also use a wired connection for a more consistent connection.Â
- Reinstall the game: I usually do this as a last-ditch effort. Reinstalling gives you a fresh start that could remove the error altogether.Â
