How to fix “Destiny 2 servers are not available” error

Here's how to fix Destiny server issues.

As is the case with all online games, Destiny 2 occasionally runs into a bit of server trouble. One of the most frustrating errors that players are seeing is “Destiny 2 servers are not available.

A few different things can cause this error, but you’ll mostly be seeing it during highly-congested times like the launch of a new expansion like The Final Shape. Like most of Destiny 2’s error codes, there are a handful of fixes that you can try if you encounter this issue, but not every fix will work for every player.

How to Fix Destiny 2 Servers Are Not Available

If you’re seeing the “Destiny 2 servers are not available” message, then there are a few things you can try. The first solution is to just wait it out. If you know for a fact the servers are not offline for maintenance, then this error message just means that the servers are having trouble with a huge influx of players attempting to log in simultaneously. Just dismiss the message and keep trying.

The next fix — recommended by Bungie themselves — is to restart the game. It’s not a guaranteed fix, but closing the game on Steam or completely restarting your console if you’re on PlayStation or Xbox could potentially resolve the issue. It’s worth a shot at the very least. The worst thing that can happen is getting stuck in a login loop again and ending up back at square one.

Other than repeatedly dismissing the message and restarting your game, there’s not much else you can do to fix the “Destiny 2 servers are not available” error. Patience is key since this error is usually caused by large crowds of players crowding up the login queues, particularly during the release window of a new expansion like The Final Shape. The severs will smooth out eventually and you should be able to start farming for all the new Exotic gear in no time.
