Luckily for you, I’ve gone hands-on to learn the best places to find Parasaurs in Ark Survival Ascended and the best way to tame them so you can ride your very own Parasaur.

The cool thing about Parasaurs is they are found almost everywhere in Ark Survival Ascended, at least on The Island. In general, the best places to find Parasaurs are on ocean or river beaches, jungles, and grasslands. Parasaurs are easily the most common dino I’ve come across so far in Ark Survival Ascended.

The only places you won’t find Parasaurs are in The Withering Swamp, Red Peak, Far’s Peak, and frozen areas like The Whitesky Peak, Winter’ Mouth, and The Frozen Tooth. Everywhere else, especially along the shore of any body of water, you’ll find Parasaurs.

After finding a Parasaur, you need to tame it. If the Parasaur has a baby with it, I recommend moving on not only because it’s inhumane but also because they can fight you and mess up the taming process. There were four Parasaurs around when I first tried to tame one and I ended that encounter with four dead Parasaurs and zero tamed ones.

When taming non-aggressive, lower-level dinos in Ark Survival Ascended, I recommend going with the wooden club and bolas strategy. You can use a slingshot but it’ll take longer and it’s harder since you have to land your shots.

How to knock Parasaurs unconscious in Ark Survival Ascended

The first step in taming dinos in Ark Survival Ascended is to knock them out. Craft a bolas and a wooden club, both accessible when you reach level nine.

First, hit the Parasaur with the bolas to keep them from running away. While they are trapped motionless, pull out your wooden club and hit the Parasaur on the head a few times until it goes unconscious. Don’t worry, it won’t die.

With the Parasaur unconscious, you now need to feed it any kind of berry that can be found by scavenging small flora. Parasaurs are herbivores so feeding them meat won’t do anything. Open the unconscious Parasaur’s inventory and drag a stack of berries from your inventory into theirs.

With the berries in its inventory, all you need to do is wait for the Parasaur’s tame meter to go up. When I did this, it took several minutes for the Parasaur to get tamed, so be patient.

Once the tame meter reaches 100%, you’ll have a tamed Parasaur that you can name and ride. To ride the Parasaur, you need to craft a Parasaur saddle which costs 80 hide, 50 fiber, and 10 wood. Equip the saddle on the Parasaur and you’re ready to ride.
