Whether you’re looking for Somber Smithing Stones 7, 8, and 9 or Smithing Stones 7 and 8 in Elden Ring, I’ve got you covered. I’ll detail the best ways to farm both high-level Somber Smithing Stones and Smithing Stones in this guide.
A quick note about Somber Smithing Stones vs. Smithing Stones: Somber Smithing Stones are rare items used to upgrade special weapons which consist of unique one-off weapons and boss-dropped weapons. It goes up to +10 and, besides buying them, these aren’t farmable. Smithing Stones are items used to upgrade regular weapons and it goes up to +25. Best Smithing Stones 7 and 8 farm in Elden Ring
- Acquire Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing 4 by defeating Godskin Duo in Crumbling Farum Azula. Give the item to the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold. Buy Smithing Stone 7 for 2,400 Runes each and Smithing Stone 8 for 3,600 Runes each.
- Farm miners in Yelough Anix Tunnel which is found in the Mountaintops of the Giants.
There are two ways to farm Smithing Stones 7 and 8 in Elden Ring. First, you can acquire the Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing 4 to unlock the ability to buy both Smithing Stones 7 and 8. It can be hard to get the Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing since it’s such a late-game item that’s locked behind a difficult boss. However, this is the best way to farm Smithing Stones 7 and 8.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to get Smithing Stones 7 and 8 before reaching the Mountaintops of the Giants. Once you get here, you can perform the Consecrated Snowfield travel glitch that helps you start the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC to get to Yelough Anix Tunnel. This cave is the best place to farm Smithing Stones 7 and 8 because enemies have the chance to drop them. I recommend putting points into Arcane to up your discovery and using your best Talismans that boost item discovery while farming.
Where to find Somber Smithing Stones 7, 8, and 9 in Elden Ring
- Acquire Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing 4 and 5. Both are found on corpses along the critical path in Crumbling Farum Azula. Give the item to the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold. Buy Somber Smithing Stone 7 for 16,000 Runes each, Somber Smithing Stone 8 for 20,000 Runes each, and Somber Smithing Stone 9 for 25,000 Runes each.
- Find Somber Smithing Stones 7, 8, and 9 in Mountaintops of the Giants and Crumbling Farum Azula.
The best way to consistently get Somber Smithing Stones 7, 8, and 9 in Elden Ring is by getting Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing 4 and 5. Thankfully, these two items are easy to get — although they are late-game items — but the downside is Somber Smithing Stones cost a lot of Runes.
Unlike regular Smithing Stones, Somber Smithing Stones can’t be farmed from enemies. Instead, there are many scattered throughout Mountaintop of the Giants and Crumbling Farum Azula. There are a few in Siofra River, Deeproot Depths, Ainsel River, Leyndell, Royal Capital, and Miquella’s Haligtree. Once you collect one out in the open world, it won’t respawn. This puts a limit to how many Somber Smithing Stones 7, 8, and 9 you can acquire barring buying them.
If you want to track down every Somber Smithing Stone 7, 8, and 9, I highly recommend using an interactive Elden Ring map online that shows you the exact location of each item. If you do that, you’ll ensure you don’t miss any Somber Smithing Stones and will be able to upgrade your weapons. Make sure you know how to get to the Deeproot Depths so you don’t miss any Somber Smithing Stones.
