The Season of the Malignant offers players plenty of new things to do, as well as warping builds with the Malignant Heart mechanic. Sadly, the Season has had a shaky start due to unpopular balance changes and strange bugs. The Imperfectly Balanced bug is one of those and is a big deal if you play Necromancer. Let me explain what it is, what it does, and how to exploit or fix the Imperfectly Balanced bug in Diablo 4.
How to exploit or fix Imperfectly Balanced bug in Diablo 4
For those unfamiliar with the skill, let me quickly explain the problem and why it has players frustrated.
What is the Imperfectly Balanced bug in Diablo 4?
Imperfectly Balanced is a Necromancer-exclusive skill that allows the class to deal more Damage in exchange for higher Resource costs. The Damage is a percentage multiplier of up to 15% and affects the Necromancer’s Core Skills. You can usually invest 3 points into the skill for a significant damage boost, but right now, you can only spend a single point.
I have an Eternal and Seasonal Necromancer, and the differences between the two skills are massive.
You can see my Seasonal Necromancer skill tree in the image above, and the Imperfectly Balanced Skill can be used. The issue is only one Skill Point can be allocated, granting a measly 5% Damage increase for the cost of 3% extra Essence.
On my Eternal Necromancer, the skill looks similar, but as I’d previously invested 3 points, the values are different. I get 15% more Damage for the cost of 9% additional Essence, which is far more impactful. I could remove the point, but if this is intended, I’d rather keep my broken Necromancer! Reportedly, if you remove skill points and try to re-add them, you cannot do so beyond the single point.
How do I fix the Imperfectly Balanced Skill?
Sadly, we have to play the waiting game. This change wasn’t listed in the Season of the Malignant patch notes, so it’s likely an unintended bug. Adam Fletcher, the Global Community Development Director for Diablo, has confirmed on Twitter that he believes this issue will be fixed in patch 1.1.1. He also explains that some issues can be rectified via hotfixes, but the Necromancer bug cannot.
Whether you’re using the Necromancer or not, leveling up can be quite slow in Diablo 4. If you’re looking to speed things up, check out our guide on how to level up faster.
