Prepare yourself to battle deadly enemies in exchange for some materials. That sounds like a fair exchange of goods! Here is how to enter The Pit of Artificers in Diablo 4.
What is The Pit of Artificers in Diablo 4?
The Pit of Artificers is one of the several new mechanics introduced during Season 4 of Diablo 4. This Tier 46 Nightmare Dungeon will have you beat Level 100 enemies to be “invited” by The Pit’s boss. This sounds all good, but the trick is that you will have to do so in less than 10 minutes so you can receive Masterworking materials to Masterwork your item, which is an endgame upgrading mechanic.
While the goal is to do all of this before the 10-minute mark, you will also unlock higher-tier versions of The Pit of Artificers and an increasingly larger number of materials. However, be careful and tread lightly since any death will punish you with a time penalty of up to 90 seconds – depending on how many times you die.
Diablo 4: How to enter The Pit of Artificers
As soon as you enter World Tier 4 in Diablo 4, you will receive a new quest called “The Pit of Artificers”. You will need to head to Cerrigar and interact with the Artificer Obelisk, also known as the Portal Activator. However, to activate it, you will have to collect Runeshards by completing endgame activities such as participating in Helltides, defeating World Bosses, and completing Nightmare Dungeons.
Once you collect enough Runeshards, you will be able to interact and open The Artificers Pit portal. There, you will be able to select which Tier of The Pit of Artificers to undertake. With that set, interact with the portal and you will enter The Pit.
How to beat The Pit of Artificers in Diablo 4
Now, as said above, this is a timed event. However, instead of finishing the Dungeon like you normally would by traversing the whole map and getting to the boss room, you need to kill a set number of enemies before you are summoned to the boss room and fight it. Think of it as a “we need the boss’s attention type of situation.”
As simple as that sounds, the actual fight with all the boss’s minions is insane. During the PTR testing phase of season 4, I used the boost to get top-tier armor and level 100, but I admit I still got my you-know-what handed to me. So, to improve your survival chances as well as your Masterworking rewards, I strongly suggest approaching The Pit of Artificers with three other friends – the one who opens the Portal will receive 100% of the Masterworking Materials, while party members receive 50%.
Be sure to use your party’s power to defeat as many enemies as you can in the least amount of time and defeat the boss before the 10-minute mark. Along with the change in how Masterworking materials drop, things such as Artillery and Blast Wave shrines have been removed from the Pit.
