How to download and play Persona 5 The Phantom X with English translation

Check out P5X ahead of its global launch.

Persona 5 The Phantom X is out now in some regions like China and Korea, but you can test out the game anywhere in the world as long as you don’t mind putting up with wonky translations and some frustrating limitations. It’s a truly great gacha game that’s worth your time, though, and getting it onto your PC, iPhone, or Android device isn’t that hard.

At the moment, there are a few versions of Persona 5 The Phantom X available to download. We recommend going with the Korean version of the game since it’s extraordinarily simple to set up and the translation mod works the best with it, but you can also use the Chinese version of the game since it’s further ahead and gets new characters earlier.

Playing on the official PC client can be tricky, but you’ll have access to some of the best translations available at the moment. You’ll need an Android device to set up your account, though. To start, download the Perfect World Games app on your Android device and the P5X launcher on your PC.

Open the PWG app on your mobile phone and tap the bottom right icon to create an account. Enter your phone number and wait for a text to verify your info. The SMS can take quite a while to arrive, so be patient. Once your account is created, open P5X on PC.

After installing the necessary data on the title screen, it’ll prompt you to log in. Click the second icon that looks like a camera. This will make a QR code pop up. Open the PWG app, navigate to your profile, and tap the camera icon in the top right corner to scan the QR code. After that, you’ll be logged in and you can start playing Persona 5 X! If your game crashes, just install the Simplified Chinese language pack on your PC.

To translate the game on PC, download this version of BepInEx. Navigate to your P5X install location and extract the contents of the AutoTranslator folder to P5X/client/pc. To activate it, press Alt+U while playing the game.

How to Play Persona 5 X (China) on an Emulator

Playing P5X on an emulator is the easiest and safest way to experience the game at the moment. It only takes a few minutes to set up and you don’t need any specific devices to make it work, you only need a somewhat powerful PC to run the game.

To start, download the LD Player emulator. Next, open the browser within the emulator and go to the Huawei store page. Click the download icon in the top left corner to download App Gallery.

Once you have App Gallery installed, open it and create an account. This process can be tricky since Huawei is banned in some territories like the United States, so you might encounter issues here. What worked for me was to try and create an account with a phone number. Enter your normal phone number and it’ll tell you that there’s a security risk and won’t let you proceed. From there, try to sign up again with an email address. It’ll ask you for a phone number again after you input your email, and it’ll work this time.

Once you’ve successfully created an account, open App Gallery and click the “Me” profile icon on the left sidebar. From there, scroll down to the bottom and select Settings. Scroll down again to Country/Region and change it to China. Once you’ve changed your region to China, search for “女神异闻录:夜幕魅影” to download P5X.

After downloading the game, open it and you’ll be prompted to log in with your Huawei info. Click “Allow” and you’ll be set. Finally, close P5X and head back to App Gallery. Change your region to wherever you’re located in real life. If you’re in the United States and it doesn’t show up, just choose Canada.

Once your region is correctly set, open P5X and you should be able to log in and start playing! Since you’re playing on an emulator, you can download an app like Bubble Translate from the Play Store to translate the game or you can use a PC translator like MORT to auto-translate the text.

How to Play Persona 5 X (Korea) on iOS

Downloading the Korean version of Persona 5 The Phantom X on your iPhone or iPad is remarkably simple. All you need to do is change your Apple ID region to Korea and then download the game from the App Store. You’ll need a Korean address to do so, but you can find Korean address generators online that you can use.

Sadly, there’s no way to translate P5X on iOS natively, so you’ll have to rely on a second device with a dedicated translation app to read the menus and text. We recommend using the PC version as your main platform and only using the iOS version to grind dailies and other simple content that doesn’t require much reading.

How to Play Persona 5 X (China) on iOS

The iOS method for P5X is the hardest and most restrictive, so we recommend just trying an emulator instead if you can. If you really want to play P5X on your iPhone or iPad though, then you must first change your Apple ID region to Mainland China. You can also just create a new Apple ID for the region as well.

Once you’ve changed your region, install the Perfect World Games app on your iOS device. Just tap the iOS icon and it’ll take you to the App Store to download the PWG app. While you’re there, you can also search for “女神异闻录:夜幕魅影” to download P5X.

Next, open the PWG app on your iOS and tap the bottom right icon to create an account. Enter your phone number and wait for an SMS text to verify your info. This can take a while, so be patient.

You need to create a PWG password to log into P5X. Once your profile is set up, open the PWG app, tap your profile, and click the icon in the top right corner of the screen shaped like a hexagon. You should see a list of options in Chinese. Tap the second option. Then, tap the second option again. Finally, tap the seventh option.

At this menu (with a blue button at the bottom), you must wait for an SMS to arrive with a verification code. Once you get the text, enter it into the first text box. In the following boxes, enter your desired password. Once you’ve made your password, open Persona 5 X and log in with your phone number and password.

For the final step, you need a Chinese ID to verify your identity. The P5X community has compiled a spreadsheet of these that you can pick from. Once you find one that works, you can start playing P5X. There’s no way to translate the game in real-time on an iOS device, so you’ll need a second device to help you understand what the menus and dialogue are saying.

Installing the Korean version of P5X on your Android device only requires a few steps. Just head to the official Persona 5 The Phantom X site and then tap the Android icon to download the game’s APK file. Use the APK to install the game onto your device and you’re good to go!

Just log in with a normal Google account to play the game. There aren’t any regional restrictions to worry about like with the Chinese version of P5X. As far as translation goes, you can find several apps on the Play Store that will translate the onscreen text for you like Bubble Translate.

Playing P5X on Android requires you to follow the same steps as the iOS method, just without changing your region. To start, download P5X from the official website. Then, install the Perfect World Games app on your Android device.

Open the PWG app on your Android and tap the bottom right icon to make an account. Enter your phone number and wait for a text to verify your info. You’ll need to wait a while for it to come through. Once you’ve created an account and have reached the profile screen, it’s time to create a password.

From the account screen, click the icon in the top right corner of the screen shaped like a hexagon. You should see a list of options in Chinese. Tap the second option. Then, tap the second option again. Finally, tap the seventh option. You’re in the right place if you see a menu with a blue button at the bottom.

Once there, wait for an SMS to arrive with a verification code. Once you get the text, enter it into the first text box. In the next two boxes, enter and confirm your desired password. When that’s done, open P5X and log in with your phone number and newly-created password. You’ll need a Chinese ID to verify your identity for the next step. Choose one from this spreadsheet assembled by the P5X community.

Once you’ve verified your identity, you can log in and start playing Persona 5 X! To translate the game, head to the Play Store and download an app called Bubble Translate. This will let you tap an icon to instantly translate anything on your screen, helping you navigate the menus and read the dialogue.
