How to do the New Zealand trick for Spiderman 2

How do I do the New Zealand trick to play Spiderman 2 early?

The New Zealand trick has been around for a while, but if you’ve never heard of it, it’s a trick you can use to play Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 early. New Zealand is the earliest time zone and because of that, video games are released there first. Here is how to do the New Zealand trick to play Spiderman 2 early.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: How to play early with the New Zealand trick

The New Zealand trick is a lot easier to do on PC, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch because those platforms let you change your region with ease. On PlayStation, it’s much harder to simply switch your region back and forth. For some reason, there is a harder lock that makes doing this difficult.

However, this doesn’t make doing the New Zealand trick impossible. The New Zealand trick is possible on PS5, but it’s harder and less convenient.

Here are the steps you need to follow to do the New Zealand trick on PS5:

  1. Create a new PlayStation account.
  2. Set your County/Region to New Zealand.
  3. Set your City to Auckland or Wellington.
  4. Pre-order Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on your New Zealand account.
  5. Go to Settings>Users and Accounts>Other>Console Sharing and Offline Play.
  6. Ensure Console Sharing and Offline Play are enabled.
  7. Switch to your local account.
  8. Pre-load Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
  9. Play it!

Cons to the New Zealand trick

According to my research on Reddit, people have reported that PS5 games are geo-locked to accounts. So if you buy Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on your New Zealand account, you’ll need to buy the game again for your main local account if you want to primarily play on that. That goes against the console-sharing advice I gave above, but since I’ve never done the New Zealand trick, I can’t say one way or the other. Just know that this may be an issue.

Other things to be aware of are your saved data won’t transfer between geo-locked accounts and neither will your Trophies. You’ll also need to buy PlayStation games online via a PlayStation New Zealand store. Using debit or credit cards from other countries won’t work, but I’d imagine PlayStation Store gift cards would.

Lastly, I’m guessing that having a New Zealand account will mess up playing online. If you don’t care about any of those things, then create your New Zealand account and use it to play games early going forward.

Should you do the New Zealand trick on PS5?

In all honesty, I recommend waiting. I think the New Zealand trick is too hard and inconvenient on PS5 which is why I recommend waiting a few hours to play Spiderman 2. I know, the anticipation is killing you.

Try to distract yourself with other games while you count down the hours. Go outside while you still can. Unless you want to make a permanent New Zealand account to play new PS5 releases a few hours early and suffer the consequences of multiple annoying roadblocks, go for it. If you don’t want that, I say wait.
