Men of War 2: How to dig trenches and build fortifications

Rather than having an army with countless soldiers ready to jump to the very first conflict they see, Men of War 2 will have you choose a more strategic way to confront any battle that you may come across. One of the few ways you can do so is to build your defenses through the use of trenches and fortifications. While you might think that you’ll need some sort of support units to build – which they exist – you can dig trenches and build fortifications with your soldiers.

Digging trenches is a great way to protect your units from incoming fire, but you will sacrifice some accuracy which is a great way to balance things. To dig them, choose your SMG Infantry and click on the Dig Trenches option at the bottom of the screen – you can also press Q.

This will activate the building tool, so go ahead and click on the starting dig site and move your mouse to create the length of your trench. By using your mouse wheel, you can also determine the depth of your trench so that you can fit more soldiers. Once you are happy with your design, click on where you want your trench to end and your soldiers will begin digging. This will take a bit, so be sure that no enemies are surrounding the area since they can take an easy shot at you.

There are tons of fortifications available for you to craft. For example, to build sandbags to protect your soldiers – also known as breastworks – select your riflemen and follow the same method as you would with the trenches or use the Shift+Z shortcut.

In the case of anti-tank barriers, you will need to use your engineers. These units are more prepared to build fortifications and defenses but lack the necessary power to defend themselves. However, this can’t be selected as you would do so with the riflemen or militia. Instead, deselect any soldiers and locate the appropriate anti-tank button at the bottom of the screen.

You can do the same with personnel mines and anti-tank mines. Once you do so for any of the previous defenses, your engineers will appear and build your defenses. Again, just like every other defense and fortification, be sure to summon them when there is no active conflict, otherwise, it would be a massacre. Be sure to supply ammo to your units so that they can shoot back while staying in a defensive position.
