How to defeat Furnace Golems in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

Extinguish their flames to earn rare rewards.

Many new enemies are waiting for you in the Land of Shadow in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, but the wandering Furnace Golems are some of the coolest. Yes, Golems, plural. The one you see when you fire, ahem, fire up the DLC is just the beginning.

These massive fiery foes may seem like bosses, but they’re just normal enemies that can be found throughout every region of the Land of Shadow. They’re entirely optional, but avoiding them can make exploration more difficult since they’ll pelt you with fireballs from afar if you get too close. Thankfully, there are a few ways to defeat Furnace Golems in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

Furnace Golem Weaknesses in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

The main weakness of Furnace Golems in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is their feet. Just like giant enemies from the base game, striking the feet of a Furnace Golem enough times will topple them and give you a chance to perform a critical hit on their face.

Attacking the face of a Furnace Golem won’t instantly kill it, but the attack will shave a large chunk off its health bar. Rinse and repeat a few times and you’ll be set. The only thing to watch out for is the Furnace Golem’s stomping attacks, which launch waves of fire on impact. Stay on horseback and jump over them.

Sometimes, Furnace Golems will have armor protecting their feet. You’ll need to employ a different strategy for these. If you encounter an armored Furnace Golem, you’ll need to find high ground to reach its face to deal damage. Ranged builds can just shoot the face from the ground, though.

This isn’t always possible, however, and that’s where new items like Hefty Fire Pots and Hefty Furnace Pots come in. Crafted using the new Hefty Cracked Pots found in the Land of Shadow, these items can be tossed into the fire pit on a Furnace Golem’s head to deal massive damage. A single Hefty Fire Pot will deplete about a fifth of a Furnace Golem’s HP, and Hefty Furnace Pots will deal even more damage. Hefty Furnace Pots require Furnace Visages to craft, however, and these are only obtained from slain Furnace Golems.

If you manage to defeat a Furnace Golem, you’ll be rewarded with new Crystal Tears for the Flask of Wondrous Physick. These can make your life a whole lot easier, especially since the new Crystal Tear buffs introduced in Shadow of the Erdtree are so strong. Keep an eye out for Furnace Golems as you unlock new areas in the Land of Shadow so you don’t miss out on any cool stuff.
