Last Epoch Character Customization

How to customize your character in Last Epoch

Why can't I customize my character?

Weirdly enough, character customization is very limited in Last Epoch. From character creation to transmogs, Last Epoch doesn’t offer much in the way of customizing your character.

Does Last Epoch have character creation or gender options?

First off, Last Epoch doesn’t have a character creation. To me, character creation is mandatory in RPG games where you create your character from the ground up. The best in this genre, including Diablo 4 and Lost Ark, have character creation and many ways to customize your character’s appearance. At least it lets you respec.

The classes in Last Epoch are currently gender locked. Sentinels are male, Mages are male, Rogues are female, Primalists are male, and Acolytes are female. I’m okay with this as I enjoy playing set characters in games, but since this is an RPG, I understand why players are upset by this.

In the official Last Epoch FAQ, the developers admit character creation and gender options aren’t coming in the Last Epoch 1.0 full release. The excuse is that it takes a lot of time and resources to create a distinct class look and creating gender options and customizations doubles that work.

They’ve said character customization isn’t off the table, but that’s not the most hopeful sentiment. I’d love to see a release window for when we can expect character customization in Last Epoch, but that doesn’t exist yet.

Does Last Epoch have transmog?

The first mistake was to not have any character creation options. The second is that Last Epoch doesn’t have any transmog yet. Transmog is the ability to make your weapons and armor appear a certain way while wearing something else. It’s a way for us gamers to enjoy fashion, which is the main reason we play any game, right?

I say Last Epoch doesn’t have transmog yet because in a Last Epoch forum, the game director confirmed that we can expect transmog in the future. Their primary focus has been on balancing classes and making meaningful progression systems instead of on cosmetics. No date was shared, but the game director’s comment came back in May 2021, so hopefully transmog is coming soon.

From my experience so far, Last Epoch is a great game. What isn’t great is the fact that there aren’t many character customization options besides microtransactions (which, of course, they prioritized). At least Mastery Classes are fully functioning and available.
