In Starfield, you will be doing a lot of paid work for a lot of people, including one Sergeant Yumi. As his favorite part-timer, you’ll be his go-to to crack down on potential smuggling activity. The Search and Seizure quest in Starfield is a short one, but it’s one that’ll pay moderately. If you want to put a stop to those… potatoes… then you better act quick. Here’s how to complete Search and Seizure in Starfield.
Starting Search and Seizure in Starfield
To unlock and start the Search and Seizure quest in Starfield, you’ll have to progress down the UC Vanguard questline. Completing the quests ‘Eyewitness’ and ‘A Break At Dawn’ will allow you to unlock and play this quest. Sergeant Yumi is grateful that you managed to get the spaceport up and running again in New Atlantis; however, there are smuggling concerns. He’ll tell you that they’ve received a tip that someone is bringing in contraband through the spaceport and that you’ll have to question the technicians on Landing Pad B to get some information.
This will kickstart the Search and Seizure quest, and you’ll be done before long.
The searching part
Follow the objective to the landing pad where two technicians will be pointed out to you. One will know nothing, even if you push her, but the other will be relieved that someone is looking into the cargo ship he reported. Ask for the name of the ship, in which he’ll tell you that he doesn’t know the name, but the clearance code: UC-576B, and that it’s a cargo-classed transport. You can ask of his suspicions, if you wish.
To get the name of this ship, go to the UC Vanguard HQ, in the MAST District. The objective marker will show you every step of the way. You’ll be pointed to Agent Plato. Ask for the slate, and he’ll hand it over. Go into your inventory and read the text log, where there are potential smuggler ships with their names and codes. The ship Anansi matches the clearance code provided by the technician. Return to Yumi and report that Anansi is the smuggler ship. Reaffirm that it’s the correct ship, and he’ll want you to search their ship for any contraband. Their ship will be at Landing Pad B. He’ll detain the ship so you can enter it.
If you provide the wrong name, the quest will close, and you’ll get paid. Despite being wrong and not stopping the smugglers, you’ll still be able to work with Yumi.

The seizing part
Following the objective markers, walk to Anansi and walk over to the captain. Ignore any intimidation attempts by the crew. When you’re in the cockpit, Malawi Ndiaye, the captain, will be waiting for you. Check their cargo hold, and you’ll find a crate of contraband, clear as day. Take the contraband, and the captain will admit to her crime. She will try to bargain, however.
Ndiaye will attempt to bribe you for your ignorance. She’ll offer 2,500 credits to lie to Yumi.
What will you do?
There are a few choices that you could make here.
If you accept the deal, then she’ll pay you. When you report that the ship was clean to Yumi, he’ll apologize for wasting your time and you’ll get paid 3,300 credits.
If you refuse the deal, you’ll have to fight the captain and crew, predictably. They aren’t tough, so they shouldn’t provide any resistance. You can loot the ship when you’re done, and report to Yumi. You’ll get paid 3,300 credits for your services.
If you are particularly sly, you can refuse the deal with the captain and lie to Yumi, by saying the ship was clean. This way, you’ll get to keep the contraband, which you can sell later. It is heavy, however, so make sure you’ve got room to lug it around.
