How to complete In Their Footsteps in Starfield

Major plot developments to be found here.

Right after finishing the Unity quest in Starfield, the game tasks you with tackling a new quest called In Their Footsteps. This one sees you meeting with The Hunter face-to-face, at which point the game throws some major story revelations your way. Those invested in the story will probably prefer to experience this moment themselves. But if you don’t care too much about spoilers, this guide will discuss the steps needed to beat this quest and what to expect from it.

In Their Footsteps Guide

Although this serves as an incredibly important quest narratively, actually completing it should prove incredibly straightforward from what I have seen. The glyph puzzle that the game requires you to complete for the Unity quest unveils the location of the Scorpius, The Hunter’s ship and the central location of the In Their Footsteps quest. During this mission, the Scorpius situates itself within the Oborum Prime Star System, so make sure to head over there.

Once you reach the Scorpius, use your scanner on it and hail it to initiate a conversation with The Hunter. Let him know that you were sent by the Keeper Aquilus to learn more about the Unity. The Hunter will proceed to grant you permission to board his ship, so go ahead and do so.

Once inside, you can talk to both The Hunter and The Emissary to have them reveal their identities to you. Upon learning this information, you can ask them further questions to gain further insight into their histories in addition to other important details of the plot.

Ultimately, though, Starfield does not require you to ask these additional questions, meaning you can depart from the Scorpius as soon as you have the initial conversations with these characters to end the In Their Footsteps quest. Aside from moving the story forward, you will earn the Moon Base Key item upon finishing the quest.
