Season 1 of Diablo 4 has introduced a few new mechanics to the game. It also came along with a quest to save the imminent demise of good and humanity. Of course, it is up to you, the hero of the hour, to save the world. You are accompanied by Cormond throughout the missions and must battle on together. The beginnings of the new seasonal quests are really quite straightforward and focus on getting the player up to speed with the changes in the map and up to a required level. The Holding Back the Flood quest is all about reaching the required level in Diablo 4 to really get your teeth into the rest of the seasonal content.
How to complete Holding Back the Flood quest in Diablo 4
Holding Back the Flood is really just a way to get players invested back in the game and up to the level needed to defeat Varshan. The first two steps of your season journey simply require you to play through rather run-of-the-mill events. Each time you complete an objective, you will earn points toward completing each stage.
To complete Holding Back the Flood, you must simply get to the third stage of the seasonal objectives. This requires you to defeat strongholds, clear cellars, do all the usual early-game quests and collect items. It won’t take long to blast through the first two stages and complete the Holding Back the Flood quest with a new character.
The easiest method to clear the quest
I found that rather than focusing on the harder missions, it was much easier to cruise through some of the easy ones. However, you do not have to complete all missions in the section to complete the Holding Back the Flood quest. You only need to fill the percentage bar. I opted for cellar clearing and heart collecting. Some of them are basically given to you for free such as the essential quests. There are simple ones like talking to the Blacksmith and getting your gear upgraded. So, clear these ones first before looking to lose hours in a Stronghold.
