How to complete Fortunate Son in Cyberpunk 2077

The word fortunate is doing heavy lifting here.

The story of Cyberpunk 2077 is probably one of my favorite parts of the game. However, the mainline story of the RPG doesn’t do a great job of showing the player how deep and intricate Night City is. Thankfully, the side missions help you get a better vibe of the city, because of how colorful and elaborate they can be. These missions help bring life to Night City, in turn, this got me immersed and more invested in not just V’s story but also the world around them. One of the side missions that helps give life to both the game and Night City is called Fortunate Son, it has a few moving parts that could make things difficult. This guide could show you how to complete the Fortunate Son mission in Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077: How to complete Fortunate Son side mission

First thing, to do this mission, you must have already completed the Queen of the Highway side mission. Both of these quests are deep into the game, I didn’t unlock them until I reached the Badlands. Now that’s out of the way, let’s get this mission done!

Assuming you’ve done the Queen of the Highway mission, you should make your way northwest side of the map in the Badlands. Use the image below as a reference. Once you reach this area, you’ll hit a Nomad camp. In one of the tents, look for 2 NPCs named Bob and Emily. They’ll be in the same tent. If you pick the Nomad lifepath, you may get exclusive dialogue here.

Bob will tell you that a member of their group Jake is badly hurt. Plus, you’ll also find out another member called Dakota has set up a meeting for you in Night City. Once you accept to help Bob and Emily, you’ll need to go to Little China in Night City

In Little China, you’ll be greeted by a hospital employee who will give you the implant (kidney).  As he runs away, be prepared to fight the NCPD. I recommend using any of these builds to take on the 5-0. When you’ve defeated the NCPD, the hospital employee will be nearby, locate him, and interact with him. You can either let him go or punish the employee. If you have your intelligence spec high enough, use it and you’ll find out the kidney will have a virus. He’ll give you another shard to use in place of the one in the kidney. After, you get some choices in how you want to deal with him. Below, we’ll go into the options you have.

What choice to make?

When you find out the employee double-crossed you, he’ll beg for his life. You’ll have 2 very distinct options. The first is “dealing” with him, and the second is letting him go. If you make him live, you’ll find out about the aforementioned virus. If you kill him and return to the camp and give Jake the implant, he’ll die. So it’s probably a good idea to get that information.

Rewards for completing Fortunate Son

To finish this mission after you’ve returned to the camp, you must wait 8 hours in-game. Bob will tell you to return to the camp to find out Jake’s fate. If he dies or lives, you’ll still get the same amount of XP. However, if Jake lives, he’ll appear in the All Along the Watchtower ending, but if he dies, he won’t. This mission is a highlight of how the world is impacted by your decisions.
