Shadowheart is a wonderful companion to have in Baldur’s Gate 3, and you shouldn’t ignore her personal questline. Daughter of Darkness begins as soon as you allow her into your party, and it will run all the way into Act 3. There are many steps to this quest, and it can get confusing when trying to figure out how to make it to the very end. I’ll explain how you can complete the Daughter of Darkness questline in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3): How to finish Shadowheart’s Daughter of Darkness quest
Act 1
At first meeting in the Nautiloid, you should definitely try to help rescue Shadowheart from the pod. After the crash, you can find her on the beach you landed on, and ask her to join you. During this time, Shadowheart will be quite closed off, and she won’t appreciate you trying to pry. There are some important steps to take during this Act to progress the Daughter of Darkness quest.
- When the Absolute tries to influence you, you’ll find out that Shadowheart’s Artifact protects you and the party. If situations arise that allow you to give it away, don’t do it, keep the Artifact.
- If you open the Gilded Chest in the Owlbear cave, you can learn that Shadowheart worships Shar.
- When you notice Shadowheart experience a strange searing pain, ask about it.
- Prevent Lae’zel from killing Shadowheart at camp.
- Find the Shar statue in Grymforge and give it to Shadowheart to learn about her wanting to become a Dark Justiciar.
- Find the Noblestalk mushroom in the Underdark and give it to Shadowheart. Consuming it will reveal a lost memory of hers.
Act 2
Act 2 in the Shadow-Cursed Lands is very important for Shadowheart’s story, and by the end, it can diverge into two completely different paths. While this huge decision mainly rests on a dice roll, it’s important to take some of these steps to fully progress Daughter of Darkness.
- Find a Night Orchid and gift it to Shadowheart, it’s her favorite flower.
- Enter the Gauntlet of Shar and bring her along to complete various trials, such as the Self-Same trial, Faith-Leap trial, and Soft-Step trial.
- Find Nightsong, and convince Shadowheart to either kill or save Nightsong.
- Killing Nightsong leads to Shadowheart becoming a Dark Justiciar, blocking off the romance path for her. This also leads to many consequences, and you will have to face Ketheric Thorm alone.
- Saving Nightsong allows you to have her as an ally, and allows you to romance Shadowheart. You also get to face Ketheric Thorm with allies from the Last Light Inn.
In my opinion, saving Nightsong is the best option for Shadowheart, but it’s really up to you. You gain the best outcomes by saving her, but if you want Shadowheart to head down a darker path, let her become a Dark Justiciar.

Act 3
In the final act of Baldur’s Gate 3, Shadowheart has another big decision ahead of her. Once you make it to the Lower City, this is where you can complete her Daughter of Darkness quest.
- Enter the House of Grief and enter the Cloister to confront the Mother Superior.
- If you saved Nightsong, you can betray Shadowheart and surrender her to Mother Superior. You can also decide to fight Mother Superior and all the other Shar followers.
- If you killed Nightsong, Mother Superior will still believe Shadowheart failed her mission. You can convince the Shar worshippers that Shadowheart is the rightful leader.
- After facing Mother Superior, and possibly the Shar worshippers, head to the Chamber of Loss and find Shadowheart’s parents.
- Either save Shadowheart’s parents — she will still be bound to Shar — or have Shadowheart kill them to free herself from Shar.
- If Shadowheart had killed Nightsong, and she kills her parents, Shar will make her forget they were her parents.
- Although freeing her parents goes against their wishes, Shadowheart will reunite with her parents who were Selunite followers.
After these final moments, you’ve now completed Shadowheart’s Daughter of Darkness questline! Congrats, I hope you got the ending you wanted for your Cleric companion.
