How to complete Breaking the Bank in Starfield

You'll need an ID if you want to go to the bank.

Breaking the Bank is the mission you receive after you finish Echoes of the Past in Starfield. This quest requires you to go to the Siren of the Stars ship and recover information on the Galbank’s lost transport that Delgado can’t stop obsessing over. This is a little intimidating if you’re unsure what to do, but we’ll get you through the entire thing with no problem.

Starfield – How to finish the Breaking the Bank quest

To finish the Breaking the Bank mission, you basically have to find Dumbrosky in the Siren of the Stars ship and get his credentials, and use them to access GalBank’s archives. To start, you’ll need to speak to Commander Kibwe Ikande about your previous quest, and he’ll send you to the Siren of the Stars ship.

The ship can be found in the orbit of Aranae IV, which is in the Aranae system, to the right of Alpha Centauri. There is no need to hail the blue and silver ship before docking with it. Once inside, you’ll need to find Evgeny Rokov, a former Crimson Fleet member. Although he already knows about your plan to steal from the ship, he has his own proposal. In exchange for your help in getting him accepted into the Crimson Fleet again, he’ll help you out.

How to find Dumbrosky in the Breaking the Bank mission

You’ll need to agree with him, but it’s up to you whether or not to mention the Earth Savior Award that Naeva wants. You don’t really need him for it, so it’s really just giving up part of your reward since he’ll want a piece of the action.

Rokov is not very helpful, because he sends you to get information from the attendees but isn’t specific on who. The important thing to remember is that while you can just go shooting everyone, the best idea is to be stealthy. While I was at a pretty high level when I went through this mission, the turrets would still easily kill me.

The patrons will give you information about the Earth Saviour Award, which an NPC named Sheila cherishes, and Dumbrosky’s relationship with Klaudia Swist. You don’t have to get the Earth Saviour Award, but we’ll detail how to get it further below. For your main objective, you need to go and speak to Klaudia.

You should tell Klaudia that you are aware of the affair between her and Dumbrosky. After that, you’ll have to pay up to 2,500 credits, or persuade Klaudia to provide you with something incriminating about Dumbrosky. Persuading her isn’t hard, as most of the answers at the top in green will work. Klaudia will lead you to Gabriel Vera.

Meet Gabriel at the Starview Ballroom stage and choose any option when talking to him. You aren’t going to get anywhere since Gabriel will tell you that he is untouchable and that he is the officer benefiting from Dumbrosky’s wrongdoings. This at least gets you to the point where you can get the Earth Saviour Award.

How to get the Earth Saviour Award in Starfield Breaking the Bank mission

After talking to Gabriel, you can finally access the Earth Saviour Award. Essentially, you need to go to the Purser’s Safe in the Guest Suite. Speak to Chief Purser Murata to find out that you can’t touch it. It’s okay because you can now go back to the Starview Ballroom to speak with Sheila to get an ID. Please make sure to save your game before talking to Sheila because this speech check really matters.

Go to Sheila and persuade her to give up the award. Do not try to go for the orange persuasions, best to stick to your abilities or Manipulate if you’ve already done the Ryujin questline.

With the ID, head back to the safe and grab the award. No one questioned why I had an ID for an award I was asking around about, so you’ll be fine. Now you can go back to hunting down Dumbrosky.

Even if you fail to get the Earth Saviour Award, you can still continue the quest. Talk to Rokov, who will say you need more evidence against Dumbrosky. He wants you to isolate Gabriel, but not to kill him. I agree with Rokov because that will cause everyone to become hostile. Instead, you can easily cause a ship-wide emergency.

How to initiate a ship-wide emergency in Breaking the Bank

If you want to cause a ship-wide emergency, head to the Engineering Deck next and speak with Chief Engineer Sandin. Tell him you need access to the Life Support area, and he’ll try to bribe you. Instead of giving him money, say that Rokov will clear his debts and waste Rokov’s money. Be assured that it will not haunt you in the future, it’s just an easy way to not lose money.

After Sandin leaves, go to the computer, select Life Support Access, and walk into the life support area. Head to the three switches and disable them. Don’t worry it won’t kill you. It’s easy to feel like the guards will be mad at you for walking around casually when they say to go to your room, but they’re nothing but bark and no bite. No matter where you go, security won’t get mad, so you can walk around stealing stuff as long as you’re not caught.

Should you kill Gabriel Vera or pay him?

Head to Gabriel Vera’s cabin and choose to represent the Crimson Fleet or SysDef. Either works, but SysDef gets easier. You can now pay 2,500 credits or kill him. SysDef will be mad if you kill him, so just pay up because your reward will be far higher and you get evidence to bring in.

Essentially, it’s better just to spare him, as killing him does nothing but make you look bad.

Should you kill Dumbrosky or spare him?

Now you can go confront Larry Dumbrosky in his cabin upstairs and he’ll pretty much give everything up. You can kill him without the ship getting hostile, but you’ve gotten this far so it’s best not to make SysDef angry. This is another case where killing someone doesn’t come back to haunt you unless you want SysDef to get mad over how you operated in this mission.

After you’re done, Rokov will say goodbye and you can head to New Atlantis to get to the Galbank archives.

How to find the file on the Legacy in the GalBank archives

When you get to the bank, there will be a nervous GalBank guard who says he’s new, but don’t believe him. There’s an ambush waiting for you ahead, so be ready. Enter the Archives, show your ID to the GalBank guard, and shoot the Ecliptic mercs.

Once they’re dead, head upstairs and go to the computer. The folder you’re looking for is called Lost Ship Registry and the file is called Legacy. Once you’ve read them, you can leave, and you’ll notice the guard left. Head back to Delgado and Naeva Mora.

Keep in mind that Naeva will give you less of a reward for the Earth Saviour Award if you tell Rokov about it. Also, when talking to Delgado, you can choose to tell him that Rokov was helpful and get Rokov back into the fleet but that only adds Rokov to the list of people trying to kill you if you decide to betray Crimson Fleet at any point. However, Rokov will be around the Key if you decide to give him credit.
