Going wireless is the name of the game when it comes to VR headsets. Nobody wants cables getting in the way of all their free, virtual reality experience. This is all well and good until it comes to the time that you want to charge your Meta Quest controllers using the docking station.
How to use the dock to charge Meta Quest controllers
With the Quest and Quest 2, you will only need to replace the two double A batteries found inside the individual controllers. However, if you are using the Meta Quest 3 or Pro, you will need to use the charging dock to recharge the power in each of the controllers.
With the Meta Quest charging dock plugged into an outlet, ensure that it has power going to the unit. On the front of the dock, you will notice two ports with three individual silver pins on each. These pins correlate with the three pins found on the sides of your Meta Quest controllers.
Align the pins on the controller to the pins on your charging dock, and place them gently together. There will be a haptic response from the controller, and you will notice a small orange light glowing on the handsets. Once the controllers are fully charged, they will display a solid green light. If the handset controller is below three percent battery life, the light will be displayed as red.
Charging Meta Quest 1/2 batteries
These units do not have inbuilt rechargeable batteries so they must be manually replaced. To do this, simply slide down the battery cover on the side of the controller. Remove the old battery and place a fresh one in. This will not allow you to use the Meta Quest controller once more. You can buy rechargeable batteries for these units to save more money every time you need to replace them.
