Whether you like it or not, you won’t be able to sport a 20th-century mohawk. Here is how to change your character’s appearance in The Thaumaturge.
The Thaumaturge: How to change your character’s appearance
After a lot of hype, The Thaumaturge is finally upon us and, since it is a RPG, many are wondering if you can create your character or even change his appearance. Let’s start with some bad news. The Thaumaturge protagonist cannot be changed, and we are stuck with Wiktor Szulski, a thaumaturge with a severe case of bloodshot eyes and some issues to resolve with his dead father.
However, while we all love the scrappy look of our protagonists, there is a level of character customization included in the game. You can change your clothes, your haircut, and your beard. You will need to be in between main quests to do so, so be sure to visit the Atelier or the Barber beforehand.
How to find the Tailor’s Atelier in The Thaumaturge
To change your clothes you can visit both the Tailor’s Atelier or your room in the Szulski Family Tenement House. Both of them are located in the Northern Srodmiescie district.
While initially limited, if you get to help the Tailor get inspiration you will be able to unlock new clothes. These are limited to different color schemes, so it appears that Wiktor knows what he likes and nobody will change his mind. And yes, that includes rival thaumaturges. The following clothes will be available to customize:
- Vests
- Pants
- Coats
Help your Tailor to gain more inspiration and you will continue to unlock even more color patterns for you to sport. No, there are no furry suits this time.
How to find the Barber in The Thaumaturge
Anyway, if you don’t feel like sporting the default haircut and beard, you can also visit the Barber. He is located in the Powazki Cemetery district.
You can change your hairstyle and beard without any type of fee. These are limited to the styles of the era and also to the Warsaw fashion. So be prepared for very pronounced mustaches and beards galore. There are a total of six haircuts and six beard styles which are unlocked from the start, which are the following:
Look | Type | Description |
---|---|---|
Classic Disarray | Haircut | An echo of the past cuts through this artistic disarray – this used to be a studied hairstyle, but it went rogue in the absence of a hairdresser. |
Vistula Flair | Haircut | A side part makes the face look slender and a little aggressive. |
Proper Warsaw Lad | Haircut | The top of the hair is styled with shorter sides – this style is becoming increasingly popular in America. |
Fancy Comb-Over | Haircut | A smart, classic hairstyle, tamed thanks to top-quality Dutch pomade. |
Gravedigger’s Dream | Haircut | Strands of hair falling across the forehead add a touch of flippancy and are a nod to the latest fashion from French hair salons. |
Graveyard Chic | Haircut | An unruly part represents reluctance to conform to fashion conventions. |
Globetrotter | Beard Style | A neatly trimmed beard and mustache add a tone of seriousness and staidness to one’s face. |
Cossack’s Mustache | Beard Style | A picador-style mustache, properly shaped with the use of pomade, can intensely attract women’s eyes. |
Abraham Lincoln | Beard Style | A beard and clean-shaven upper lip after the Dutch fashion is a perfect way to sport lush facial hair while being able to enjoy thick soups and sauces without restraint. |
Van Dyke Beard | Beard Style | A pointed beard elongates the chin and makes the face look thinner |
Elegiac Charm | Beard Style | A thin pointed beard and short moustache is a more practical and forward-thinking variation of the latest trend in barber fashion. |
Powaski Cabby | Beard Style | The “imperial” cut will make any gentleman look like an emperor. |
You can visit these places as much as you want if you feel like you need an extreme makeover. As said before, usually during quests you won’t be able to abandon the area, so these will be closed down and even the fast travel points won’t get you to the different districts in Warsaw until you have finished the quest.
