One of the chief complaints about GZW at launch was the permanence of your Faction choice. If you want to swap, you can now change Factions in Gray Zone Warfare — Here’s how.
How to change Faction in Gray Zone Warfare
All players can now change Faction in Gray Zone Warfare, but it’s not something you’ll want to do all the time. The only way to swap Faction is to wipe your character and create a new one. This was impossible at launch, but you can easily delete your character on the Main Menu screen.
Open Gray Zone Warfare and press the Wipe Character button (pictured above) in the bottom corner of the screen. You can only have one character at a time, and the system does have a couple of limitations:
Character wiping is permanent
There’s no way to bring a deleted character back, so make sure it’s something you definitely want to do before proceeding.
Characters with less than an hour of playtime cannot be wiped
I’m unsure why this is, but it doesn’t make sense to swap characters all the time anyway. If you want to change the faction with a character you just created, you can rack up some playtime around the Faction base or just walk onto the map and explore.
When you wipe a character, your game will reset, and you’ll regain any edition-specific bonuses. I had to open my game again through Steam when I wiped my character, and it brings you straight to the Character Creation screen when you boot up.
Should I change faction in Gray Zone Warfare?
The main reason you would want to swap factions is to play with your friends. At the time of writing, players of opposing factions can’t play together. Wiping your character may not be a perfect solution, but it beats being unable to squad up.
Gray Zone Warfare is great with friends, but some quests can be obscure. You’ll feel right at home if you’ve played Escape From Tarkov, but collectathons like the Rat’s Nest quest are challenging without a guide.
