How to catch crabs in Dave the Diver

Some crabs are easier to grab than others.

There are three types of crab in Dave the Diver, and two of them are special finds. All three require different strategies, as one is random and the third is a boss.

We’ll go over how to catch each of the crabs below so that you can make any crab recipe you’d like.

Dave the Diver – How to catch all crab types

We’ve separated the crabs from easiest to hardest to get. The first is the random crabs and the last is the boss crab.

You will find Sally Lightfoot Crabs in 130 to 250 meters depth. They only appear during the day and are randomly around the ocean. They are not special crabs to get and just require an easy capture. In my opinion, these are never worth it, you can always get better fish once you can get deeper and these normally rank pretty low quality unless you have the Steel Net Gun.

I’d prefer to catch Spider Crabs with the Steel Net Gun because that’s worth the effort of using it and diving a bit deeper. This is really just for early game catches.

You’ll have to upgrade your Diver Suit enough since this fish is over 100 meters deep.

To catch a Spider Crab in Dave the Diver, you need to use a Steel Net Gun. You can find Spider Crabs in the Blue Hole Depths, around 190 meters deep, which is below the Blue Hole Depths. Equip the Steel Net Gun and shoot the Spider Crab with it. Reel in the Spider Crab to catch it.

You can catch the Spider Crab by dropping rocks on them, but that will lower the quality. I recommend using a Steel Net Gun so you can get a 3-star Spider Crab consistently. I like getting the most that I can for my effort and lowering the quality by two stars just because I would rather drop a rock on a crab isn’t worth it to me.

How to catch the Truck Hermit Crab

How to beat the Truck Hermit Crab in Dave the Diver

To catch a Truck Hermit Crab in Dave the Diver, you will need to have progressed to Chapter 3 and completed Duff’s Dream. The next step is to get into a night dive. Dave the Diver will hear Sato mention whirlpools in the blue hole. This is a sign that you can face the beast.

Just swim out and go into the first whirlpool you see. The Truck Hermit Crab is a powerful boss in Dave the Diver. Do not try and shoot this animal, trust me, bullets don’t do anything. Instead, wait for it to give you the perfect ammunition.

It likes to swing at you, so I generally just got close, moved away, and then got close again to bait it again. Keep doing that because it will eventually get mad and throw barrels at you. You need to use these barrels to defeat it. Just dodge them and then get them real quickly and when they hit the ground, you can use them.

Right-click them to pick them up and just do what I did and dodge after baiting the crab again. Once it misses, hurry and drop the barrel into the Hermit Crab’s Truck section. Rinse and repeat until it’s dead.
