Tears of the Kingdom: How to cancel an arrow shot

After you get a bow and some arrows in Tears of the Kingdom, you can equip the bow and aim your shot by pressing ZR. However, if you tap ZR, you’ll fire an arrow and if you hold it down, you’ll aim an arrow. If you don’t want to shoot your arrow, you can cancel the shot by pressing B.

Note: If you need help with the Ukouh Shrine, check out our guide.

While simple, this is an extremely useful trick if you intend on using bows and arrows a lot in Tears of the Kingdom. Especially when you get more advanced arrows that are less expendable than Iron Arrows, you’ll want to use the cancel shot button to your advantage. With Iron Arrows, you can shoot them into the ground and pick them back up, but for other arrow types like Fire and Lightning, you’ll want to cancel your shot.

Though pressing B is the easiest way to cancel your arrow shot, you can also cancel your shot by pressing L to use your equipped power and Y to draw your melee weapon. If you want to change your bow, you need to be holding R and press right on the d-pad.

Now that you know how to cancel your shot, you won’t go around wasting any arrows. You can focus on becoming an excellent archer who knows when to unnock their arrow.
