How to beat the Primogenitor in Remnant 2

The original spawn.

There is no denying that Remnant 2 has got some great bosses. They’re original, inventive, and keep you on your toes. I found that the Primogenitor was one of the better ones. It took me a little while to even figure out who it was. You may find that you have been plugging away at this boss to no avail; there is a good reason for that. Yet again, Gunfire Games has subverted expectations and created a boss that takes brain and brawn, but here is how I beat the Primogenitor in Remnant 2.

Interestingly, the word Primogenitor actually means the original ancestor or first of a race. This is a good clue as to the method of beating this boss. To reach it, you must first come to the end of the Hatchery dungeon in the N’erud portion of the map. As usual, due to the nature of  Remnant 2 rerolls, this isn’t a guaranteed spawn.

The main thing to note, and what most people get stuck on, is that the boss is not the huge flying beasts around the map. It is a tiny blue creature that inhabits them. Shooting the flying beasts will do nothing. You must kill its host, then empty clips into it afterward as it looks for a new one. This is what most people miss when trying to kill the Primogenitor in Remnant 2.

The Primogenitor attacks

  • Parasites – Around the map will be thousands of parasites. They will latch onto you and cause damage. Rolling will get these off your body. While they are attached, you will struggle to aim and move.
  • Toxic Blasts – When the Remnant 2 Primogenitor is inside one of the flying hosts, it will fire toxic balls at you. They leave behind toxic clouds and need to be dodged to avoid taking damage in Remnant 2.
  • Primogenitor Attack – Once you have killed the host, the boss will come after you. This is a great moment to empty clips into it. If it latches onto you, it will do damage. However, rolling with it latched on will also damage it.

Method for attack

I found that using basic ammo to kill the hosts was fine. Roll constantly to keep the parasites at bay. Once the host is dead, get your status effect ammo out and start plugging away at the Primogenitor in Remnant 2. The lasting damage will do the rest. Don’t stress about avoiding the parasites; just keep rolling. Avoiding the toxic clouds is recommended, though.

Rewards

Once you have defeated the Primogenitor in Remnant 2, you will receive the Cracked Shell. Taking this to McCabe to turn it into the Space Crabs Mod. This mod allows you to fire an egg that explodes into space crabs. Gross.
