How to beat the Phase Spider Matriarch in Baldur’s Gate 3

There are a lot of nasty creepy crawlies running around the hollow caverns of Baldur’s Gate 3. All of them need to be killed; it is your divine duty. Few are quite as disgusting as the Phase Spider Matriarch found in the Whispering Depths. This Phase Spider Matriarch sits atop her sticky web, surrounded by minions and eggs, and she takes some beating if you go about the battle in the wrong way in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to beat the Phase Spider Matriarch

She looks ugly, and she plays dirty in Baldur’s Gate 3. Her webs are sticky, and her eggs are full of little minions that will only make your life that much more difficult. However, with a little prep, you can render all her defenses impotent and take the upper hand.

Baldur’s Gate 3 preparation phase

Before you engage this horrific arachnid, first take the time to prepare. The first thing you should get your hands on is the Spiderstep Boots. These will remove the debuffs that come from walking over webs. You can now move around her nest without being enwebbed.

Use these boots to creep around the Phase Spider Matriarch nest and destroy, first, all her eggs and then her minions. If you can do all this without alerting her, you’re already way ahead of the game.

You can also burn her webs. This will mean you can’t get too close to her, but it will also prevent her from dashing across them and will come into play later in the fight, too.

Fighting the Phase Spider Matriarch

Once you have wiped all her minions out, you can go ahead and engage the Phase Spider Matriarch with your Baldur’s Gate 3 team. Keep your distance and use as many ranged attacks as possible. Start from stealth and get some quick hits in before the Phase Spider Matriarch attacks.

Once she goes for you, use the big pit in the middle of the room to your advantage. You can use certain spells to knock her back off her pedestal and into the hole in the Baldur’s Gate 3 arena. Then, once she is down there, you have the height advantage on any further attacks.
