How to beat The Howler in The Cycle: Frontier

Death from above.

Season 3 of The Cycle: Frontier has brought about several changes to the game including new weapons, free players, and of course, new enemies. The most prolific of the baddies is the flying entity known as The Howler. This beast is a random encounter and brings the pain to anyone unlucky enough to be within range. It fires huge projectiles that rapidly deplete health, and has been the cause of many an early end to a run. Knowing how to beat The Howler in The Cycle: Frontier will help you not only get out with your loot but possibly grab yourself a few goodies too.

The Howler patrols the skies of The Cycle: Frontier. Unlike other enemies in the game, it isn’t restricted to a certain area and can pop up wherever it likes. You will hear it across the map as it lets out its deafening scream. At least this lets you know how to avoid it.

Bring your gear

First of all, make sure you are prepared for a long fight. Even going into battle with top-tier weapons is going to take a while. The Howler in The Cycle: Frontier has a huge health bar. You’re going to have to hammer away at it for a long time to finally take it down. Ensure you have a lot of ammo and a gun you can rely on at long range, The KBR Longshot or Basilisk wouldn’t be bad choices. Anything in the purple range of guns will serve you well to beat The Howler in The Cycle; Frontier.

Don’t go it alone

The Howler isn’t designed to be taken down solo. Its huge health bar and devastating attacks can be a real problem for a single player, with more than one attacking you can at least distract it whilst another player heals up. Multiple players can distract The Howler away from others giving them time to reload, heal, and dispatch other enemies.

If you’re going solo, it is even advisable to use proximity chat to recruit other players on the map and split the bounty.

What to expect from The Howler in The Cycle: Frontier

The most important thing in any game is beautiful, shiny, loot. But before you get your grubby mits on that, you need to know the ins and outs of the attacks.

The Howler’s attacks

You can expect heavy projectiles as the main attack. To beat The Howler in The Cycle: Frontier you will need to use cover and stay away from these flying spikes. They stick into whatever they hit and then explode after a time, getting hit by these rapidly drains health.

The secondary attack is a howl, hence the name. This disorients players and causes vision to become distorted making aiming rather tricky. This is paired with slashing and tearing damage if you get too close. Keep your distance.

The second stage when trying to beat The Howler comes after a significant amount of health has been drained. The attacks become more ferocious and have higher damage.

The Howler’s loot

First, there is a mission to defeat The Howler in season three. You will have to deliver the killing blow to the winged beast to achieve this so make sure you have comms on if you’re trying to check this off your list, it’ll be very frustrating to waste your time.

Most importantly, the loot when you beat The Howler in The Cycle: Frontier is great. You will get Howler Darts and Howler Honey, both of which are very valuable. If you’re lucky you may get your hands on a Howler Syrinx too. These are the vocal cords of the monster and fetch a huge price from vendors.
