The Haunted Mansion and Botanical Horror stand between you and a date with Dweller of Woe. Fortunately, the Mansion isn’t nearly as perplexing as the Necromancer’s lair, but it has a few quirks you should be aware of. The Botanical Horror is no joke and is a formidable opponent. If you’re struggling with either, let me show you how to beat the Haunted Mansion and Botanical Horror in Sea of Stars.
How to beat the Haunted Mansion and Botanical Horror in Sea of Stars
As previously mentioned, the Mansion isn’t too tricky to figure out, but there is a puzzle and secret to uncover. By default, my screen brightness for the Mansion was so dark I couldn’t even see doorways. If you have the same problem, turn your brightness up by a couple of notches in the Pause Menu.
Skull Puzzle
There are 4 Skulls on each side of the room above you. There’s a picture of 8 Skulls above the fireplace in the middle, and you have to match the order. These are a litle hard to see on a small screen but the jaws are all very different and easy to identify.
How to reach the secret chest
There’s a Rainbow Conch chest up for grabs in the Mansion, but you can’t reach it from inside.Â
When you’re in the garden in front of the maze, interact with this pot by the west wall. A gap in the bricks will open, and you’ll reach the chest if you step inside.Â
How to beat the Botanical Horror
The Botanical Horror is a menace. It’s weak to Solar magic, and you must hit it in the head to deal damage. The problem is it’s immune unless all four flowers surrounding it have been destroyed first.
The Boss’s Cast Bars are hard to break as they usually have awkward requirements. Valere’s Moonerang is excellent, but the timing is tough to manage in this encounter.
Every time you let the Botanical Horror cast, it will use an attack called Quillshot. This ability hits a single party member three times for a decent amount of damage. You’ll need to spend a ton of MP to break every bar, so expect a few attacks to go through.Â
Save Garl’s Nourish for tricky situations, and don’t be afraid to fall back on your food reserves. As Quillshot hits multiple times, Valere’s Lunar Shield isn’t worth the hefty MP cost. MP is better spent on attacking. Once you’ve beaten the Botanical Horror, brush yourself down and prepare to take on the Dweller of Woe. If you’re struggling, check out our guide to the encounter.
