All of your hard work and training in the early game of Sea of Stars has led you up to this point. A tremendous battle with the Dweller of Woe. You’ve heard stories about how powerful this enemy is, and here’s the bad news. All the stories are true. The Dweller of Woe will test your prowess in combat like no other adversary thus far. If you have what it takes, let me show you how to beat the Dweller of Woe in Sea of Stars.
How to beat the Dweller of Woe in Sea of Stars
The Dweller of Woe is part of a multi-phase battle, and as Garl isn’t a Solstice Warrior, the Headmaster takes his place. Although you technically have five party members, you only need to focus on keeping Zale and Valere alive. The other Solstice Warriors don’t have health bars, and the Headmaster has more HP than he’ll ever need.
The other Solstice Warriors are out of your control, but they deal consistent damage throughout the battle.
As mentioned, you control the Headmaster instead of Garl or Serai, and he only has two abilities. Hold Rune, which makes your team’s attacks deal more damage. Heal is a decent full-party healing ability.
The Dweller of Woe is weak to magic, so Moonerang does fantastic damage. Sunball also works well if you time it perfectly.
The boss has a few tricks up her sleeve in this fight. Mirror Images summons a couple of doppelgangers, but they aren’t much of a threat.Â
Soul Spikes has a cast bar that you should be able to break. If not, it hits everyone, but the damage is fairly low. To break the bar in 2 turns, a perfectly timed Boosted Attack from Zale and Valere should do the trick.
Garl Phase
After you’ve dealt enough damage, you briefly control Garl on a journey to break the roof open. Head up the ladder to the right to get there. Interact with the three shimmering areas, and Garl will blow up the roof. After the dust settles, the Dweller of Woe assumes its final form, and the fight gets much harder.
Dweller of Woe’s Final form
I recommend taking a more defensive approach for this part of the fight. Try and keep a few Orbs available for Boosting, and don’t be afraid to use Valere’s Lunar Shield to negate damage. Just as before, the boss is weak to magic.
The Dweller of Woes abilities have had a significant upgrade, and all have the potential to end the fight.
Spectral Scythes is a nasty AoE attack, but it’s got easy timing for blocks. The cast bar can usually be broken with a Boosted Solstice Strike combo.Â
The boss can also use your teammates against you. As scary as this sounds, it doesn’t usually do much damage and only hits one party member.
The Dwellers’s big attack is simply called Pain and has a massive Cast Bar to break. If it seems impossible, remember that the other Solstice Warriors’ attacks also count. If you can’t break the spell, the whole team takes a ton of damage. Use the Headmaster’s Heal whenever needed. Even if you spend a few turns on the defensive and use Valere’s Lunar Shield, your teammates will still deal damage even if you can’t. Because of this, don’t be afraid to out-grind your opponent, as they can’t regain HP. Play the long game, and you’ll emerge victorious.
The Dweller of Woe hits tremendously hard, so don’t sweat it if you lose on your first try. If the fight is too difficult, check out the Relics and see if they will help at all. We have a guide on them if you’d like to learn more.
