How to beat Polluted Platoon Pathfinder in Another Crab’s Treasure

The Polluted Platoon Pathfinder is likely the first miniboss you’ll encounter in Another Crab’s Treasure. And while he’s not too much harder than other bosses and enemies fought so far, you’ll still need to be careful.

At this point you’ll have just unlocked Umami abilities. And these will be a key component of Another Crab’s Treasure going forward. If you want you can completely ignore them, but I wouldn’t recommend that. In fact, the Fizzle ability is going to be indispensable for the Polluted Platoon Pathfinder encounter.

Best strategy

First up, you should become very aware of this boss’ weaknesses. His slow attack speed and large hitbox are the key takeaways. You can easily circle behind it to avoid the wide-reaching swing of the glass bottle. And while you’re momentarily safe from its attacks, you can deal damage from behind. Don’t start spamming the attack button because you’ll likely get stuck in an animation and punished as a result. Just swing at the boss one or two times and then back off.

The best attack to bait is the big vertical swing he does after leaping in the air. This is easily punished by dodging to the side and attacking. Then when you’ve backed off, use Fizzle to keep the damage up and build up the boss’ stagger meter. If you want to play it safe you can ignore the stagger meter and play the fight slower. Either way, I’d recommend using the charge attack to deal more damage when you’re confident that you have a big enough window.

Eventually, as you whittle its health down until it has about a quarter left, the Pathfinder will smash the bottle down after a big windup. Be sure to dodge this as it deals a load of damage. Luckily, the fight doesn’t change all that much after this point. Just keep dodging its attacks and keeping the pressure while using Fizzle to deal damage from afar.

After some patience, you’ll be able to whittle down the Polluted Platoon Pathfinder in Another Crab’s Treasure easily.
